The name “Batgirl”
When did they start calling the Batman on Jubilee “batgirl”? More importantly why? I apologize but I must’ve missed this sometime in the not-too-distant past. I’m not sure I really like that name for this extremely beautiful watch. Thanks

The best part of TRF is the obsession with un-coining “batgirl” as a colloquial name for a watch... why are so many triggered by the use of “girl”?

What’s wrong with it? It’s just a name. If you don’t like it, then call it the “Batman”, “BLNR”, “Blueberry Black Licorice” or whatever other name you prefer.

Interesting. I never really thought of a Jubilee as being bling. So the name came from the very beginning? Cool. Thanks man.

My AD called it that to distinguish the two types he had in stock. It stuck. Doesn't really matter to me tho.

Doesn’t particularly bother me, but I do prefer “new Batman” to “Batgirl”. I don’t really see anything feminine about it (not that it would necessarily be a bad thing)

Originated by people who own the original BLNR (which I prefer) to denigrate the jubilee version. Instead of Batman2 or BLNRJ or something else, they went with Batgirl. There is nothing wrong with girls or women, but when you call a watch that is primarily worn by men by a feminine name, there must be a reason.

Interesting point. I assumed it was like cars which often have womens' names. Didn't take it as a point of denigration but your logic makes sense. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I call it “Batman” (normally call it BLNR). The name is for bezel not bracelet ... same as Pepsi/Rootbeer is name whether on oyster or jubilee. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Because the watch became more feminine and the Batman naturally became Batgirl.

Exactly. I owned one until I bought my Pepsi. I always called it BLNR or Batman. Just like you said though because of the bezel. The first time I’ve seen the name batgirl has only been the last week or two. I don’t know how I missed it in the past. That’s the reason why am asking. I guess they are saying it’s been called batgirl since Basel?

I find the whole Comic book naming thing to be horrible. It cheapens the brand, the movies suck and the whole think stinks of the current youth never willing or able to grow up. Just my opinion.

There obviously needed to be a way to distinguish these two very different styled watches. Since the "Batman" nickname was already out there, and since the new model was more blingy and jewelery-oriented, the "Batgirl" nane was coined by some clever people. It immediately resonated throughout the larger watch community, mostly because it just made sense. The styling of the oyster bracelet is more masculine, the jubilee is more feminine. Anyway, that ship has sailed. We could fight it, but the fight already lost. Sent from my SM-J327P using Tapatalk

Then all Rolex watches, at least new ones I guess are bling then. The PCL’s on my old BLNR stuck out much more than the Jubilee bracelet does on my Pepsi. At least in my opinion. Men, in general at least, don’t like to buy and wear “Feminine” things. The Pepsi is probably the second or third most popular watch Rolex has right now and it’s on a jubilee. I guess the jubilee is “dressier” but to me PCL’s on the oyster are dressier and definitely have more of a bling factor.

Funny how enthusiastic people were to put the 116710 BLNR on the SJ and it was praised. Then Rolex puts it on a jubilee, and haters call it a female name. Seems to me the people calling it batgirl are the ones that cannot get one, or they have the 116710 BLNR. Similarly, a lot of people talked down on the 126710BLRO (colors), until they got one. Then all of a sudden they love it. I own both- (116710 and 126710 BLNR) and they are both great pieces. Hate on batgirl haters.... |

It's DEFINETELY the 'Bruce Wayne' when it's on the more upscale and stylish Jubilee. The armor of the oyster remains the Batman

Did you know that people who follow Comics past the age of 30 and that includes watching the movies tend to be under developed in critical thinking skills and have genitive cognitive abilities of the average teenager. Just saying huge study that came out recently and there are a few studies that have come out over the years that say the same thing.

I don’t get how adding a feminine is “hate,” though if that is the intent of the haters, then it is sad... and misplaced, as the jubilee looks great on both the BLRO and BLNR. I agree more with the car/plane/ship analogy with endearing feminine names — “Memphis Belle,” etc. |

No, it’s straight disrespectful of the real hero’s who wore the brand name. But in today’s Society we have no sense of honor or respect.
