Because mainsprings fail and if you have 2 of them the chance of failure doubles. The mainspring will probably be replaced during a service. Replacing 2 has to cost more in terms of parts and labor than replacing 1. If the price of servicing a watch with 2 mainsprings, everything else being equal is the same as the price of servicing a watch with one mainspring, then the price is artificial and does not reflect the real difference.

In any event and regardless of cost, I will always chose a tool that gets the job done reliably and simply over one that over complicates things in order to pursue goals that to me are useless and irrelevant. This philosophy has served me very well over the years, for example when choosing cars.

If you must have an ultra long power reserve I suggest you own it and simply get a solar powered watch.
