Replaced crystal on a ceramic submariner

I saw on HQ Milton a listing for a ceramic submariner, they replaced the crystal with an authentic Rolex crystal as part of the servicing. I think it may have sold but would people buy a watch with a replaced authentic Rolex crystal? I wasn't sure if it hurts the value of the Rolex. I guess it might also depend on who is doing the servicing.

A crystal chips easy and most people prefer a flawless one. Since Rolex stopped putting service markings on replacement crystals it’s impossible to tell if it has been replaced and therefore doesn’t hurt the value at all.

If it is the correct replacement, I can’t imagine why it would matter if it has been replaced. The bigger question would be why did it need to be replaced. If it was scratched, probably not a big deal, if it was from a shatter or break caused by a major impact, I would be curious what other potential issues were caused and if they were also corrected

A replaced crystal would have no affect on the value of a watch. The Plexi crystals were replaced routinely at service.

A genuine replacement crystal is fine.

But I’d want to know why it was replaced. A small chip, fine.

If the crystal was shattered and damaged I’d want to know about it. I’d also want to make sure that if the crystal was shattered the movement got an overhaul as tiny bits if glass can make its eat into the movement.

This depends....
When Sapphire Crystal's originally came out they had no markings. The markings were introduced several years after Sapphire was in use. Older watches should have no markings. You would need to validate the year of a specific model to see when the markings were introduced.

However, in my opinion it should have no impact on value unless you have a real collectors piece represented as all original. Even then if it has ever been serviced it would not be all original as springs and seals and some other parts are always replaced when serviced.

Of course people would buy a watch with a replaced Rolex crystal. Would you prefer a cracked / chipped original crystal which makes telling the time harder?

You would be correct if we were talking saphire submariners but he is asking about ceramic. All ceramic submariners have the same markings.

as long as it was replaced by a reputable competent shop with the correct part then sure, no problem with that.
