Hi there guys,

I just purchased a 18K Day-Date men president on yellow gold, this is my first watch ever and I absolutely love it and plan on keeping it for a lifetime, and eventually handle it to my first born

Question #1: How do I clean the watch at home while not damaging the gold?

Question #2: I know it sounds totally silly, how do I set the date and day? I dont want to break anything!

Congrats on the new DD and welcome to the Forum. Here's my suggestion as far as cleaning. I use jewlery cleaner, then warm water to rinse every 2 weeks or so. The biggest advise I can give you is NOT to rub the polished areas of the watch...period. Don't wipe it dry, don't wipe off fingerprints, etc...not even with the Rolex cloths! Every time you wipe it, you are scratching the surface. After you clean it, pat it dry with the softest towel you can find. If you constantly wipe it, you will begin to see the hairline scratches and loose that beautiful mirror finish.

As far as the setting the day/date, just unscrew the crown counter clock wise (CCW) till you feel it pop. TIP...at that point, if you turn it clock wise (CW), you can wind it...35-40 turns will give you a full charge. To set the date, gently pull it out 1 click. Turn it CW to set the date and CCW to set the day. Pull out one more click to set the time.

**Don't forget to screw the crown back in completely. This will make it water tight!

Welcome and congrats on your watch. I follow Steve's suggestions on cleaning, but i dry it with a cotton towel. My advice: just enjoy it! Now, how about some pictures?

WOW!! That is one helluvah watch for being the first watch that you have ever owned! That's like having never driven or owned a car before and then buying a ferrari or rolls royce. In any event, great choice for a watch, whether it's a first watch or 21st watch to own.

Assuming you bought it new from a dealer, I'm surprised the salesperson did not show you or explain for you how to set the time, day, and date? But, regardless, the watch should have come with the booklet that explains how to set it and if not, someone had already posted here very clearly how to set your watch. Be sure to wear your day-date all the time, then you'll only have to mess with setting the date for those months that have less than 31 days.
