Different Dials on SD Triple 6
Dear All
I just bought a SD Triple Six from 1986 and i have some questions: Am i right that i have the MKI Dial? The second pic shows a small part of the dial, could you let me know if this is just aging or are this some sort of scratches? Thanx for your help Christian |

Since it has gold surrounds on the markers.....not a mk1....see these links for quick reference:

The first gold surround dial had no hyphen between the word sea and dweller...those are very prone to spidering...

Yea, the "scratches" around the date window is spidering. When Rolex first introduced the gloss dials in 1984, the lacquer would crack and spider on many of the dials. It can look pretty cool when the whole dial spiders out evenly. Some collectors really like it. Some hate it. I happen to really like it when it's very even and the cracks are sharp like crackled ceramic.
This issue was fixed pretty quickly. I haven't really seen it happen on any models after 86 but I could be wrong about that. Edit: Here's a good example of it and more info on your dial: http://www.drsd.com/watch-info/tripl...eadweller.html Last edited by jerryhum; 17 January 2020 at 08:54 AM.. Reason: link |
