I am new so please be gentle... does anyone know anything about this model?

Hi experts,

I want to buy a gift for my mum’s birthday and have come across this watch. I don’t believe the strap is real but am wondering if the watch might be? How might I know? Does this look like a watch you have come across? It says “(c) Pat Pend R.W. Co” on the back.

Thank you so so much for any advice you might give me! I so appreciate it.

Not so fast. It may not be a fake, it may just be a badly repainted dial. R.W. Co stands for Rolex Watch Company. I see a few things that jump out as correct Rolex styling. Lets see pics of the crown, the case back and the movement before judgement is put forth. I hate how people throw out the word fake so quick when they certainly know nothing about Rolex watches of this style. It is impossible to state fake from 1 picture on this type of watch. And that bracelet may be correct. I have seen similar on ladies cocktail watches from this era.

Usually vintage ladies cocktail Rolex like that is worth it's scrap value. No real market for them. The coronet looks a bit wonky and there's a chip in the glass. I think you can do better for a gift. These are fairly abundant and not expensive. Keep hunting.

Before you commit to buying one as a gift, you might want to explore service costs. In general, most of these ladies models are not worth much more than scrap gold value. However, the can cost a lot to service.

So...

Don't buy one unless it has been serviced and you have the history.

And don't give one to your mom unless you have a plan for how to get it serviced when it needs servicing.

Good luck.

You're right, but in the context of this thread, I don't think it matters very much whether it's fake, or a badly done re-dial. Either way, it's not something that the OP would want to give as a gift.

I totally agree. It would probably take more than its worth to make it worthy of a gift. Others stated right off the bat that it was fake so I was defending the piece until more evidence proved otherwise.

Let me put it this way: even if parts of it are original....it is so bad that it looks worse than a fake.

Hard to tell with just that one photo. Please take additional photos from the wide, back, and if possible open the casebook and show the movement along with the inside of the casebook.
That is the only way to know for sure if its real or not, and value.

From just this one photo, it looks like a cheap ladies Rolex with a bad bad painted dial.

This. It's not in a condition appropriate as a special gift for a loved one. It looks like someone's drawn on the crown and text with a pen. While drunk.

Probably real with a poorly redone dial.
Would have to see the movement to be sure.
Appears to be solid gold as some others alluded to.

With only this one photo, it doesn't appear to be gold to me. At first I thought it might be two-tone, but after looking again it looks like gold plating that is worn off.
