Bittersweet double incoming

Happy 2020 everyone. Haven’t posted in a while but thought occasion was right. 2019 was a great but bittersweet year. Was blessed to pick up several new references last year including a WG GMT Pepsi all from AD. Last summer I told myself one of my first goals of 2020 would be to surprise my dad with a GMT root beer for his bday this coming Feb 10. He has a vintage root beer and I know he had been in love with the new one. Needless to say I had been patiently waiting for the call from my AD. And even now as I fight my tears back, I’m still beyond devastated to share that my incredible dad passed away in October as a result of a long battle with cancer. Sadly he never made it to his bday and I had completely forgot about the watch. Three days ago my AD called to tell me my dad’s watch had arrived in time for his bday. I wasn’t sure how to respond without breaking down. I told him I’d call him back and immediately called my wife. She told me I had to buy the watch, there was no question. The watch was intended for my dad, it arrived right before his bday and I had to wear it in my dad’s honor. It was truly an emotional purchase but she was right. I can’t explain what surge of emotions ran through me when I first put the watch on. At some point I will have it engraved.

Also early last year I realized it was time to get my wife her own Sport Rolex so she can stop wearing and constantly adjusting mine. Today the call came for her no date Sub - it really is stunning and clean sans cyclops. Perfect for her as she never has the patience to set the date. I’ll be gifting it to her in March for our wedding anniversary. Amazing woman to say the least.

Thanks for listening. Much health and prosperity to each of you.

Very sorry to hear about your Dad. I would be willing to bet that he would have wanted you to get the watch and do exactly what you plan to do with it! Just because of that it will mean as much to you as it would have meant to him!

You now have a Root Beer which will stay in the family forever in his memory. Nothing will replace your father but to now have something this special for you and your family is incredible... I am a sentimental person and this would be so warming for me to wear each day.

edit: the fact your wife told you to buy it anyways speaks volumes of her. How touching to have it engraved... I would have that done asap as it's his watch anyways :) :)

Great Story, I'm sure the watch will be special forever. I just got one for my son, and had his name put on the Card. These silly things can end up meaning a lot.

Heart felt story. Your Dad is watching from above and proud of your actions.

BTW.......it seems that your wife is just as supportive as mine. We are both lucky guys.
