Found a way to buy SS Daytona at retail

1. Apply for a jeweller job at your local AD
2. Work for 1 year
3. A Daytona arrives
4. You let your family member buy it under their name
5. You quit the job

Exactly.
A few years ago an AD rep told me that he can only get one gmt every 5 years at staff discount. Lucky for him the gmt he had on has been discontinued and is worth much more than he paid for it.

I've thought about this strategy but wonder if there is anything preventing the store owner from getting first dibs on any Rolex at cost.

Much success in your new opportunity.

Can you wait to quit until you get one for me?

I'm pretty sure AD owners can always get first crack at a watch. It's their store and their watch as soon as it arrives and is paid for.

However, I think Rolex does monitor in some shape or form if the AD is simply just hoarding the watches.

As an AD, you also want to make these pieces available to the public in order to keep clientele and promote the sale of the any non-desirable models.

My AD has 20 sales people. You think AD will allow 20 Daytonas to go their families first?

this will not work, AD owners have to approve of most professional watches being sold...especially a Daytona. nice try though

Better off taking a higher paying job and just pay the premium in the grey market.

This is the truth.

Even the manager or most senior SA will seek ownership approval to sell them. Period.

My SA has a blue sky-dweller. The rolex rep gave him an opportunity to purchase any watch at cost if they won a sales competition. He sold the most watches last year.

Hmmm so I’m curious how many salespersons you’ve seen with ceramic Daytonas on

agreed.

If I were to work as a SA with the difference in pay. I would be losing enough money to buy many Daytonas at gray markups

Talking to dbag SAs at my 3 ADs over a period of a month drove me into the arms of the reseller. I can always make more money but time and dignity are priceless.

You missed step 4.5 where the family member realizes true market value and flips it for $10k profit, leaving you jobless and with no Daytona. Step 6 begins denial, then 7 with self-pity, 8 with eating instant mac-and-cheese alone in your apartment...

This plan doesn't end well.

1. Work for there one year are you sure having enough money to buy
2. Priority of the watches seems decide by manager but not staff
3. One year is not enough to wait a Daytona arrive

conclusion: Work hard, keep waiting or go gray.
