Tried on my first all-gold Rolex today....

I had to kill some time after school, so I went to my favorite music store and hung out there for a while. Tried out some guitars and left, and decided to check out one of the larger pawn shops in the area to see if they had any nice guitars in stock. I checked out the guitars, wasnt much there, so I decided to check out the watches they had on display. They had Rolex's out the wazzoo, at least 7-8 datejusts, a couple Air-Kings, a small platinum/steel Yachtmaster, a few with diamonds all over them, a sub, and a solid gold white dialed Yachtmaster. The guy behind the counter noticed my sub and we got talking about watches. I tried on a titanium Baume et Mercier diver with a yellow carbon fibre like dial. It was nice, super light, felt good, but I dont have any spare money for watches at the moment. For the hell of it, I asked how much the Gold Yachtmaster was selling for. He replies $18,500cdn, you want to try it on? I said he didnt have to let me, but if I could I would.

I gotta say it felt good, really liked the feel and the weight, but theres no way I could pull off a solid gold watch on a gold bracelet, it just screamed bling. Didnt look right on me, and I'd have to say I'd probably go white gold or platinum if there was any way I could ever afford a precious metal piece, and if I went yellow gold, I think I'd put it on a strap. Felt kinda cool having over $18,000 on your wrist...

I never wore a solid gold (yellow gold that is) watch in my life. However, IF I had the $18,000+ to buy a gold Rolex, I'd be wearing one in a heartbeat :)

I've always wondered what it would be like to own and wear a solid gold Rolex. I think many people share the same fascination but are reluctant to pull the trigger and buy one because of financial constraints or because they think it's too "bling'' and they don't want to attract unwanted attention. Maybe one day I'll find out how it feels...

I hounestly dont think I could pull it off on a day to day basis, at least not with the gold bracelet, maybe on a strap. That big chunk of precious metal certainly felt pretty good on my wrist though. I think the only Rolex I'd buy in solid gold would be a DDII that I'd only wear on special occasions.

I wouldn't have any issue wearing a DayDate, white gold, white dial with stick markers, plain bezel, and President bracelet.

Or if TempoKing had a great deal on a platinum model, and it had the with the ice blue wave dial, Arabic numerals, and the President bracelet, I might go for it in a few years.
