Just curious if anyone here has a vintage Milgauss (original version, circa 1985)? I had a chance to get one in 1988 from my local AD when buying a new Rolex. Ended up with the Explorer, but looked at the white and black faced Mil. Sure would love to have an original one from that time, but I understand they are in the $10k+ range.

Don't care for the new version. Polished center links and the odd shape of the new case just don't do it for me.

Well the original version, goes back a lot earlier to the 1950's.
The model you saw in or about 1985 would have been the 1019 model.
I have a 1019 model and it is now worth about $20K+.

Crazy money, just think, they were discontinued because they were horrible sellers. Now we all wish we had one stashed away.

Ah, the white faced 1019 is what I looked at way back when. The EXP and the MIL of the same year were priced the same, if I remember correctly. My AD, since retired, told me at the time the EXP would be the best choice since he felt the MIL was obscure and designed for use around strong magnetic fields, and that I wouldn't need all that.

Wow, another good use for that time machine I'm also in search of.

I had a 6541 (with lightning second hand) since 1966, sold it in 2001 for 60K, now I regret it as prices go sky high, mine was #412505 4th quarter 1958. Watch never let me down in 35 years of wearing it. Once I put in on a linear drive of an IBM mainframe disk with the yellow sticker HARMFULL FOR WRISTWATCHES the Mil ticked on and two friends put a Seiko and Breitling on the magnet and they both stopped and never ran again !! amazing watch although it was certified chronometre it always was fast 10 secs a day, my 14060M (not certified) runs within chrono specs.

btw the 6541 costed 670 dutch guilders in 1966, that was about 200 usd then !!!!
problem was that the 6541 was a shopdaughter Most juwelers send the watch back to Rolex Geneve (that was possible in those days) so worldwide only a couple of hundred 6541"s exist (i.e. have been bought).

observe that there is no Tritium on hands or Dial, this was because watch had to be neutral in a lab environment. 6541's offered with Tritium are refurbished and not original. First movement used was 1030M (M for modified)

I bought a Milgauss 6541 new in 1966 that was made in 1958. It has a plain bezel (for the U.S. market), and both the dial and the m&h hands were luminescent. An antique book (listing typical values for watches) that I saw 10 years ago listed a red faced Milgauss 6541 worth $30,000. The picture was black and white. Someone else told me that a brown faced 6541 was merely a faded black face. Any insights?

My 6541 was 4th quarter 1958, mvmt 1030M and one of the very first manufactured (see pictures in previous post), I got it in 1966 (been in the shop for 8 years !!) and it had no luminiscense... sold it in 2001 for 60.000. If I had kept it , it would now be worth double that amount.. but who could tell ?
I am happy with my 14060m sub...
