the debate: steel rolex vs. tt rolex

i believe in year 2009 that steel rolexes easily out sell tt rolexes.... i have recently spoken to 4 different ad's in different states who have all said that tt never sells.... they just sit in their cases forever these days.... and i know one thing for sure.... the resale market on tt datejust and tt daytona is terrible... i would like to hear everyones opininon... have a great day!!!

Yes SS defenantly out sells TT in my opinion. The only TT i ever really liked was the SUB Bluezy to be honest.+

Although I am wearing today a "Zenith" Rolex two tone 16523 with a white dial and Arabic numerals from the 16518
I prefer the steel Daytona... which ...if it was not made in limited quantities it would have outsold any Rolex watch ever made.

For what its worth, I see at least 3 TT (DJ's, Bluesy) for every 1 SS out and about.

i think ur seeing a lot of tt datejusts that were sold in the 70's, 80's, and 90's.... the new version of the 116233 TT datejust sits in the ad's cases forever...

SS definitely out sells tt, especially on sport models, at least that is what my friend at me AD says. I would have given you my preference but I guess you don't want it. SS oops

Think about all the buyers of Rolex. About half are women. MOST women I see with a Rolex are wearing a TT DJ.

I do agree with rolexgiants that SS has and is becoming more popular than in the past.

You also have to realize that we on TRF are not "typical" Rolex owners. As such, you see a much higher proportion of SS watches among our members. The "average" Rolex buyer gets his/her watch because they want a Rolex, and nothing says Rolex to the masses like a TT DJ does.

But remember how hard Milgauss was selling in the 50s or 60s? They used to sit in showcases for years and years. That made Rolex stopped producing them, therefore become rare and now ... those who inherited those old Milgauss are seeing huge value.

Hence, current trend will see millions of SS in people's ownership. Are TT going to fetch better value in future???

I think Rolex for the most part is to mass produced now days to fetch the kind of money some of the rare vintage pieces fetch. Unless you have a limited run model of some sort. Like a Tiffany & company Daytona or something.

im not talking about trf at all... many members besides myself have spoken to their ad's and other ad's and have been told the same thing... tt never sells anymore... u see thousands of tt datejusts in the wild that were purchased in the 70's, 80's, and 90's... and i cant believe that u really think that 50 percent of all rolex sold are the ladies versions... come on.... that makes no sense at all....

have you visited ADs in asia? gold is very popular in asian countries. The points is unless you talked to every single AD in the world there is no way you can prove anything.

SS (WG) is the new YG. I have noticed, here in San Antonio, TX, that I am seeing more and more SS/WG than YG.

in asia u have a higher number of 36mm rolex watches.. which means more sales of all 3..ss..tt..and all gold.... but that doesnt mean there are more sold tt's there

Definately SS ROLEX. I don't like gold at all, especially yellow gold. If it's white, then it's ok with me.

One of the reason why SS is selling so good now might be because of the economy. It might be as simple as people don't have the money to spend more for a TT or maybe SS is the latest fad.

Feels like I see a lot more SS than TT in the field but, similar to when you buy a car then seem to see them all the time, not sure if that is more about objective observation or heightened perception to watches that look like mine.
