Calibre 3285 in GMT II
This is a brand new Calibre right?
Long awaited "new generation" upgrade from 3185... Does it have a quickset date? Thanks! |

No quickset on that one but it doesn't take long to set. You simply wheel around the hour hand 24 hours. The minute and second hands are unaffected and keep time while you're setting the hour hand.
The last quickset GMT was the 16700 with caliber 3175. |

As a matter of interest why didn't they add a quickset date? From what I'm reading this has been the biggest bugbear of this (and the previous 3185) for decades... Would there be some technical reason for not being able to add this quickset date function? |

Pull crown out to second position watch continues to run and you simply advance the hour hand very easy, if crossing the international date line you can turn it in reverse to subtract a day. Can't believe the accuracy have owned it for 62 days it gained 1 second a day for the first 7 days and in the last 55 day's has not gained or lost even a single second absolutely a fantastic movement and watch.

they’d need another stop on the crown pull; stop one is the jump hour and stop two is the full handset.
whether or not that’s an easy fix i can’t imagine. i am not a watchmaker. i wonder if bas can shed some light here?

More importantly it would make it more complex for the user. Right now there are four different positions of the crown: Screwed down -> winding -> set local hour hand -> set local minute hand + gmt hand In your suggested configuration you would have five positions Screwed down -> winding -> set local hour hand -> Quickset date -> set local minute hand + gmt hand which might be too much fiddling for the end user. |

Besides, it's only done 5 times per year anyway. |

Ok thanks.. I was just curious why there was a technical difficulty, because Orient have a GMT with both quickset GMT hand and quickset date and this is a full mechanical movement ...

Rolex makes their movements for ease of service... parts reduction, equal size screws, parts interchangeability whenever possible, and an overall plate and bridge stack that's easy for the watchmaker. I'm sure they could do it but I'm not sure they'd want to do it.

On my Orient the crown 1st position manually winds. 2nd position forward = quickset date. Backwards = quickset independent GMT hand. 3rd position = hackable time...
It's a full manual wind/auto mechanical watch, 40 hr power reserve indicator, 40mm so similar size/thickness etc Sure there is no screwdown crown, but it's very easy to use.. No idea of the movement number - don't usually check on a $250 watch... Does this mean the Orient would be a shocker to fix? I suppose for 250 bucks you'd just throw it out right? So clearly it can be done..I was just curious why Rolex hadn't at least considered other movement configs that's all.. |

Honestly it does not bother me in the slightest, the more interaction I get with my watches the better
