The stamped end links only contact the case along the upper contour.
To rotate that contour forward, into the case, the bat-wings on the backside are bent slightly to push the upper contour forward. Sometimes the stamped opening is just too wide too, so the link can be closed, or squeezed, together. Other times the tube is excessively worn, or the spring-bar is the wrong diameter. A proper size springbar is easier than replacing the soldered in tube.
