The mk2 SD43s made their first appearance in summer 2018 (unless you have a proof of an mk2 sold in 2017), suggesting mk1s were only made in 2017 and perhaps also in the first half of 2018.
There's probably only a few thousands of mk1s ever made, so they're not rare but certainly less ubiquitous than mk2s produced twice as much and counting.
Agreed that it doesn't really matter and it wouldn't stop me from buying an mk2. But given the choice I'd pick the mk1 as it's kind of cool to have an SD43 from 2017, the 50th anniversary year. It makes it just a little bit more special IMHO.
