I don’t wear my nice pieces. I got wear watches, like a 16570 and a 16700, but I don’t wear the nice stuff. They’re meant to be kept nice and dark in the safe.

What’s the use of buying a watch if you’re not gonna wear it.... would be my question to him.

Scratches are consequence of wearing. You can be careful all you want but it’ll get scratched. That’s why I don’t agonised over scratches anymore. I’d rather relished the joy of wearing.

There may well be a further colleague in the office who thinks you are insane for wearing expensive jewellery pieces to tell the time, that their casio or phone achieves more accurately. It's never worth trying to second guess others motivations unless very bored and/or nosy.
