In the '70s and likely for several decades, Rolex bracelets and straps were 16mm at the clasp/buckle.
If you are sticking leather on your watch and have a typical 18mm strap, you may need to look at the later (very recent) Cellini clasp or buckle options. They are not easy to come by, and all are gold, so not cheap either.
