You never forget your first Daytona...

Many years ago I sold one of my favorite pieces, a SS Daytona with a white face, along with a JLC and bought myself an AP ROO Safari which is still have and love.

But years passed, and I always missed that watch, and at times I regretted selling it. Even more regret piled on when I realized I bought the watch for $8,500 used and sold it for $10,500... but now its worth double what I paid for it LOL.

Fast forward to today, I caught the bug again and decided to browse chrono24 to see what I could find. Ended up pulling the trigger on a SS Daytona once again, black dial for $16,820. Not bad considering the current market, sure it hurt but im beyond excited to own my second Daytona and needless to say I wont be letting this one go any time soon hahaha.

Also my second Rolex that I currently own, my daily is a 1968 5512 Submariner that will probably be passed on. But anyways, glad to be back in the Daytona club hahaha :)

Ive always been a fan of the white face, but decided to try something new and opt for the black dial. What do you guys think? Did I make a mistake opting for the black dial? lol

Cheers!

My biggest regret in watch collecting was selling my old Daytona.
I paid 7500 UK pounds for it and sold it to my mate for 6500 five years later.
He still reminds me what a good deal he got

Everything I sold over the past 10 years is now worth more than the money I got when they were sold.

But that’s a good thing for the Rolex owners, right?

That’s why I never sell my first Daytona and also my very first Rolex. I don’t wear it anymore, it look like new in the safe, it was my 40th bday to myself. I am down to only 3 watches, many bought and sold but first one stay in the safe. I notice I gravitate towards the sub the most prolly because it can take heavy beating on daily tasks. From running errands to banging the boat engine room.

The Daytona is nice and all, but that thing made my heart skip a beat. I LOVE how that looks. Don't you dare polish that thing!

I bought an 116520 black dial just like your’s in 2004 and it was my daily for over four years. Bought at MSRP of $6975 and sold for $10K. It wasn’t until last year I decided I wanted another one, picked up a 116500 in black also.
Enjoy your new watch, don’t baby it.

Noooooo it would never be polished, the thing with these vintage pieces that were meant to be tools is that every scratch and every bit of wear and discoloration gives it so much character and makes it unique. I love this thing, thank you for the kind words!!!

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous

That black on black ceramic dial and bezel combo is absolutely stunning in person, pictures barely do it justice

You never forget your first Daytona...

I never bonded with my first. I don’t respect the sentimentality some feel. If it works for you so be it.

My second and third are a different story.
