I'm annoyed with my AD
Happened to walk into my local AD the other day just to see what they had and also to keep the rapport alive. I've already bought 2 rolex watches from them in the past so they know me well. We talked about current affairs, availability of watches etc. Then out of the blue I was told they had a CHNR out the back. I said that I'd never seen one in real life and I would appreciate having a look.
The watch was brought from the safe. It was still in its coffin. I tried it on and under the lights in the store the colours just popped. I immediately fell in love. I was told I could buy it if I bought some jewellery aswell or a 36mm datejust. I immediately found myself going from feeling very positive to a feeling of resentment and distrust. Earlier we had been talking about flippers and how bad they were for the industry and if anyone ever flipped a watch they had sold they would blacklist them and yet not 15 minutes later the AD is doing something I consider to be just as underhand. I left the store shortly afterwards calling out so the manager could hear, "I'd have bought that watch today if you'd let me". I wonder what Rolex would think if they knew. It really puts you off the brand. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk |

Wow. That is ridiculous. If there’s a way - and I’m not aware of one, I’d report that to rolex. Unreal. Sadly the state of many AD’s, I’m told. Where is this? You can be generic. No need to call out the jeweler.

Absurd, especially since this is a two tone watch. Go back in a couple of months from now and they will be begging you to buy it at recommended retail, no strings attached.
He has a lot of gall, behaving like that and at the same time complaining about flippers. |

If they treated a returning customer like that, I can only imagine they'd ask newbie's their kidney.

Ahhhh, don’t let the AD bother you any.
Rolex is not making watches at the time, plus a considerable amount of buyers just aren’t there anymore with our current global crisis. These will be available and plentiful. As a matter of fact, this model in on sale here on the forum BNIB from $15-16K at the moment, which is what you would pay anyway at an AD with tax—without the shenanigans. |

Haha well they gave it their best shot. Wish them luck and find your watch somewhere that appreciates your business.

Did you get the SA's name? Not only would I not go back to that AD, I'd tell them that I will be reporting them to Rolex. Whether something happens to them after that is a different story. Ridiculous AD.

They sound dumb, losing a sale when the economy is going down right now. If I was them I'd be happy for any sales at all.

This is kind of why I've stopped going to ADs myself.

Interesting that they wanted you to bundle even though you purchased from that before. Lucky for me, I’m in to the YM line and those are plentiful with most not having a wait to my knowledge. Sorry to hear that.

I, like most here, can afford to jump to Vacheron, AP, etc. This is the stuff that makes the jump easier to justify. Years on a waiting list for a machine made steel watch? Bundling sales with crap I don’t want? They must think they’re a car manufacturer combining the safety upgrades with the premium packages? The market is down 1/3, the 1st wave of infected haven’t even hit the hospitals yet. Good luck selling them when the store is closed for 8 weeks Champ.

Sounds like an AD to avoid. They don’t seem to value repeat customers.

Yeah, I'd be pissed. Sorry to hear about that. Sucks to go in there, try on an available watch, fall in love, and then have the AD go full douche.

That AD deserves a Darwin award for being so dumb in a crashing economy.

What a shame...happenings like this are a black eye on the brand, especially considering what's currently going on the world.

it'll be nice to have the shoe on the other foot. I love the product but AD sales tactics like this are a complete turnoff.

Sorry to hear about your crappy experience. I’ve seen a lot of incomings purchased from AD’s without bundling or even history. Try another AD that deserves your business.

I wouldn't have liked being in OP’s shoes because I don’t believe in bundling, but there is nothing I see that is improper or remotely illegal with the AD. OP did all that he could do; he walked away. |

We blame flippers too much. ADs are doing it to maximize revenue.

I wouldn’t have taken it personally. I would probably have made a counter-offer to buy it at a 15% discount. Pretty cool watch.

I love how you talked to them about flippers as the "bad guys", and "I would never do that", thinking that that's the criteria they use for knowing who to sell watches to |

If the watch was in a coffin, clearly it was deceased and prepared for burial.
I agree that that is a very questionable business practice and I wouldn't do business with that firm in the future.
