Sub LV pics - JJ ? for you or other photo gurus

JJ,
I played around tonight and clearly my camera has a lot more capability.

I didn't crop or edit, these are the raw pics.

My biggest issue is still lighting and glare.

So my question is, do you guys use some type of box or setup to get the optimum lighting conditions?

Nice! Natural lighting seems to be better or pics without a lighting setup.

I use a homemade light box when I take pics. Just a frame with a white sheet covering it and 2 desk lamps with 5000k CFL bulbs. I use CFL because they are low wattage and do not get very hot. Here is a pic of my Speedy Pro taken in the conditions I mentioned with my Nikkon D60.

Much better. I asked about the flash as I like to bounce my flash off the ceiling as they are usually white or you can bounce it off a nearby wall a mirror works as well this provides a well balanced and more natural lighting. If you want to get real creative you can bounce the flash off of something of color. If you want a picture to have a blue hue to it bounce the flash off something blue if you want it red you guessed bounce it off something red.

You would be amazed at what your camera can do once you learn how to use it. I have had mine for over a year and I still do not know how to use it to its full capabilities.

Russ,

Beautiful shot!

Where do you place the lamps, front, top, side?

I would like to see a pic of your setup if you get the chance

Thanks

Thanks!
I place the lamps on the sides. I am still playing around with the light placements, but all the shots I have taken so far have been with the lamps on the sides. I will try to get a pic of my setup tomorrow for you.

Hi Charlie,

A definite improvement in these pics as compared with the previous lot in that other thread.

Now the thing that's kinda "wrong" with those pics is the choice of background. You've got some kind of blue base on the black dial watch with a green bezel!!

Get the picture......or should I say the "Clash" of it?

Try using a plain background, WHITE works all the time. Use your Rolex boxes as a back drop. That way you can even capture the Rolex logo as a background.....for example....

Or even a hairy wrist......

By the way, do you actually wear those watches?

Not a mark on them

I've never used a box or setup for any of my photos. It's what ever light is available and occasionally the flash.

Indoor with light coming though the window.

On my desk with light from a lamp.

Outdoors with natural light.
