RSC USA Warranty with open name card
Guys, a friend of mine bought a submariner from a gray market store in Hong Kong with open name card (AD name and date of purchase are filled). He told me that the minute and hour hand do not line up perfectly at 12 when set at 12 o'clock. I haven't seen it in person so I don't really know how bad it is.
The question is, can a rolex that was purchased from gray market with open name card be serviced in RSC in USA? If he write his name in the card, would that be ok (since he is actually not the original owner). I read some thread in TRF that says if the watch is not bought in USA, a proof of purchase must be sent along with the watch for service, is that true? So what to do with watch from gray market (I don't think the store gave him the original receipt from AD though). Thanks guys. |

RSC will service it. I don't think it will be covered under warranty. Last time I checked, the warranty is not covered in USA if bought out the country

Just had a GMT II that I bought in Australia fixed under warranty by the RSC in NY. They will do work under warranty but they will want to see the guarantee paper is filled out correctly and the original sales receipt.

The AD stamp on the card is different than from whom he bought it from (grey market dealer?) right?
If your buddy were to take the watch to an RSC, What they will do is verify that the AD stamp on the warrantee is from a valid/registered Rolex AD. The next thing they'll do is check the date of purchase. If these 2 things check out, your friend is fine and should have the service done for free. Now, if the grey market dealer bought the watch from an AD that had already LOST it's Rolex dealer-license AFTER the date written on the warrantee paper then your buddy is out of luck and will have to pay to have it serviced. The reason I mention this is because Rolex doesn't look too kindly on grey-market AD's and will revoke licenses from AD's who flood/send their extra stock into the grey market. If the AD stamp is of an AD still holding their license and in good standing, then your friend should be ok. Either way, Rolex will service the watch. |

I assume the watch came with the Rolex S.A. (international) warranty. If so, this warranty states that all that is required for warranty service anywhere is submission of the card along with the watch. The card must be dated and dealer stamped. No sales receipt is required.
Rolex USA is required by law to honor the terms of the warranty. Fr. John† |

Not trying to be difficult but that was not what I was told by the NY RSC, 2 months ago. Apparently the sales receipt is required if there is any question about the information on the guarantee paper.
Just so there's no confusion, this is for a watch bought outside of the USA being fixed under warranty by an RSC, within the USA
