stolen watch?

Hi gang,
i have to opportunity to buy a used rolex sub in great shape. The owner has no papers/box for it. I questioned him if it was legitimate. He supplied me with the case and movement serial numbers .I would like to authenticate if this watch is legitimate or stolen before i make up my mind to purchase it.Does anyone know whom I can contact to verify the serial numbers before i make up my mind?
thanks,
janeto72

There is no universal database for stolen/lost Rolex watches.. Rolex Corporate does keep a list of those that have been reported to them, but they will require that you submit the watch for verification, then, if it is stolen, they will notify the reporting authority..

There are a couple of databases on the net, but they are not validated..

If you have the serial number from the case, it will help in dating the watch. For authentication you need somebody knowledgeable to give their opinion and open it up to verify a Rolex movement inside.. I would be very surprised if he gave you a movement serial number as those are somewhat difficult to get to.

There is no paperwork that comes with any watch that can "authenticate" it, authentication can only be done by visual inspection.

The black market of Rolex watches represente over 15% of there (Rolex) business!!!

From MOB, credit cards frauds, drugs and prostitution etc...

It is not on there interest to create a database on the stollen watches!!!

Probably the same here!!! maybe 15% of the members are owners of black market Rolexes!!!

If the serial numbers are filed off, thats a dead give away, if the owner gave you all of the numbers it doesnt sound like he has anything to hide.

I would bring it to your local AD to make sure.

Even if the watch came with papers I would still bring it to the AD. The numbers on the watch, dont always match the numbers on the papers.

Just like you can buy an authentic watch with no papers, you can just as easily buy authentic papers with no watch(sold on ebay all the time).

Good Luck!

One way is to ask about the shop where it was bought and then ask them about it.

Buy the seller, not the watch! Good luck.
