A friend of mine just purchased a 1965 gilt GMT and it has the same type of marker patina on the 6, 9 and 12 markers as your Submariner - all three markers have a darker lume than the other markers.

I’ve seen it a few times. My guess is that it could be due to the mass of the plots. The thickness of the lume makes it age differently. I wouldn’t call it very common but it happens.

Your input provided some additional reassurance that its not moisture related. I’ve been searching for photos of similar dials with no luck. Nice to know there are others with the same pattern.

Earlier ones had gilt hands (up to about 1963/4), so this one likely had one or all the hands replaced at some point, so it's not a matching set. I'd guess this watch is circa 64/65 serial range.

My 5513 has the same difference in color. Its all original from 1989.

In response to hand replacement. I’m not in denial, more curious.
The hour/minute hands show signs of black oxidation but dont reveal

the metal underneath.
The sweep hand for the most part has a matte brass colored finish, except near the peg, which there are patches of polished silver. Could the Rhodium finish have oxidized and been wiped? The sweep hand lume appears to match the 12/3/6/9 lume.
Any suggestions for a UV torch source? My apologies if this question has been asked before.
