Personally, I wouldn't do the deal if they planned on keeping it. I don't buy with the intention to flip, so I may or may not need it right away, but it is still mine. If I financed the watch, I wouldn't have much argument in them keeping it until I pay it off, but if I pay in full, that warranty card is my property, same as the box, manual, and all the bracelet links. Where is the line drawn in what they can keep?

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH ANY DEALER WHO WITHHOLDS YOUR PAID FOR PROPERTY
Holding onto the card without your written consent would (at the very least) be perceived by the BBB as a fraudulent sales practice -
At the very worst, an investigation from your State Attorney Generals office could follow.....

Would you consider the practice (that I have only seen overseas so far) of having any desirable professional series piece in the display case but when a customer comes in to inquire about that said piece they tell you that it isn't for sale? How would that be viewed? Should they write underneath the Rolex sign museum? Haha

It wouldn’t be the “fired workers” who have liability for failing to return customers cards. The cards are more likely to be returned than not.

For a corporate location that is closing, there would be better oversight by the general manager. For a privately owned jeweler, the principal(s) would most likely return the cards.

It doesn't have to be the worst case scenario that the AD closed down or went bankrupt, they could just lose the lose the line which DOES happen.
