AD's sending new watches by post - UK?

Apologies if the answer to this is already known on the forum.

With all the 'Incoming' threads of late I notice that AD's in USA (and may be elsewhere) are able to sell and post goods after payment is received whereas in the UK AD's are seemingly not allowed to post goods.

Is there a reason for this difference in working practice?

We post watches worldwide every day with DHL so I don’t get the problem, you can get a domino’s pizza delivered no problem, I wouldn’t fancy paying for a Rolex or a Patek that has no date of collection or shipping, I’m very sceptical of the way AD’s are playing this.

As you say Goldsmiths will deliver most models it seems, apart from Rolex, I have emailed them 3 times in the last month to try and get a Sub, Sub date or SD43 but the only response I get is wait until stores reopen.

Yep that’s the reply I would expect during lockdown

They posted before the hype took off and they got very powerful and selective, I presume that policy is still in place but they may relent on some slower models if lockdown goes on too long and they need the business.

Before the flipping went crazy, AD's would happily ship. Due to flipping, Rolex stopped the AD's shipping to customers, what they wanted to do is have a catchment area for the AD and make it harder for flippers to get watches and onto waitlists.

In addition, AD's were requested to not sell to out of catchment customers to try and block flippers. At the end of the day, it would be dumb to not let someone buy something from the window but they 'should' not be putting you on the list.

Problem is the watch i want (choice of 3) are never in the window anyway and with stores closed for the foreseeable future there are not any windows to look in, I am a genuine first time purchaser and the only option given is to go on a waiting list but I feel that is a waste of time which pushes me to a grey dealer, but my personal principal is I won’t pay a premium, if they choose not to sell me a watch then so be it, it’s not through lack of trying.
