Very true, if I didn't have the money to buy a new Rolex, that would definitely be the way I'd go. I'd rather do that then rent one any day of the week (Especially at those ridiculous prices).

A lot of people rent jewelery for big events.

My friend wants to "rent" my Platinum DD for his wedding.

But I told him his fiance will be too jealous of the diamonds compared to hers.

just the same as hireing a luxury car for the weekend
we see the same cars on a friday night in town with different young guys behind the wheel (mercedes AMG, ferrari, range rover vogue) and we know a company not far from us hires them out for the day/weekend
it is funny because these guys just drive round reving the engine of the ferrari as they pass the bars and never go inside, i wonder if they can't afford to buy a drink because they have blown all their cash on the car hire

back to the watches though....
how do they know if someone has swaped out the internals for a fake set?
or
if someone has broken their watch and hire one to swap the parts?
or am i just getting cynical

its a funny old world

I suspect the target market is NOT those posting on web forums :) Interesting there is a market for this. As a 'watch guy', watches are personal *to me* so it reads as odd to rent one. Not at all the same as renting a limo.

For others, perhaps not.

I can easily see renting 120K diamond necklace to wear to the Oscars, so why not a Rollie? And I'm sure they are insured, so if item returns damaged or not-as-original the company has recourse.

$144 is actually not bad.

I'd say at least half of that amount goes to insurance alone.

Unless, the rental company will ask you if you'd like to take their insurance coverage or you can use your own.

I know that when you rent a car, typically the rental of the car can cost as little as $25 a day, however, the insurance could cost $50 a day!!!!! Most people will use their Visa GOLD card (although there are some drawbacks, aka read the fine print!), or pay an annual $25 fee to your own auto-insurance company and decline the car-rentals insurance and use your own.

As this is jewellery, you may have a hardtime insuring it yourself, and I don't think Visa has this sort of thing in their plans.

Factor in wear & tear and I'd say they're losing money renting these things out.

No wonder they are only renting out the lower end of the Rolex line.

A SubDate would probably cost double if not triple.
