Seems like a pretty standard estimate.

I agree,
This is the way a 20 year old GMT should look!
Who wants to wear an old looking watch?
Faded bezels and patina look old.

You could have sent it to RSC without a bezel like I did since I figured they wouldn’t give it back. This guy cost a pretty penny to repair and get new parts (bracelet, crystal, dial, bezel, service).

I didn't know Rolex would give you a different bezel insert, i.e. change a coke to a pepsi?
I thought they would only give you what came on the watch when it was new...

Does it take some kind of jeweler's tool to pop out the insert without nicking it?

Thank you Snowbob,

That is extremely inspiring and part of what has made me fall in love with Rolex/Tudor.

Thanks for sharing your story.

I just looked on Google for bezel inserts, and there's a ton of knockoffs on there for between $30 and $100. If they're easy to change, maybe I'd like to wear a pepsi once in a while!

10 years before I bought my GMT (30 years ago), I bought a TAG Professional Diver for about $500. It was black and gold with a black and gold jubilee-style bracelet. I thought it was beautiful. Battery operated. The bracelet didn't last long, went to a velcro band to fit over wetsuits and drysuits. I beat the crap out of that watch, Hobie racing, windsurfing, snowmaking (yeah, 20 years in the ski biz), heavy equipment ops, lift maintenance, etc. When I dropped my GMT off at the AD, I dug that old thing out of a drawer and gave it to them to put a new battery in it and pressure test. Been wearing it since March, while I'm waiting for my baby to get back. She's a good old girl! Working fine, and I missed that old Marker Ski Bindings velcro band!

I got this email back from the service center about my old bezel insert:

To answer your question about the insert… we may certainly provide that back to you for a nominal upcharge for a non-trade in item. I appreciate that you want to retain your history for future generations. I will forward your request and an updated estimate will be sent to your jeweler.

So happy I'm getting it back!

The only optional thing I'm getting is the new bezel insert. Also got the updated estimate from the AD - the bezel insert is $40, and to get the old one back is an extra $16. Now I'm trying to find out if I can pay a little extra to get the original crystal and crown back, too. I think it would be awesome to have all the original parts in a little sealed bag to keep in my original box.

Pay them the $16 before they change their mind.

Next time when you send it in, pop out the old insert and send it in without one.

Can someone tell me how hard it is to take out the bezel insert without messing it up? Any special tool needed? Thanks!

So, the RSC agreed to send me my original bezel insert back (for an extra $16) and they also agreed to send me the original sapphire crystal back (waiting on the updated estimate), but they won't send me the original crown... :-(

Breathtaking
