Submariner Date Advance at 0400?

I purchased my 116610LN in early 2015, brand new at an AD. Not my favorite watch and I do not wear it too often. I recently noticed the date advances at 0400 hours. Might be a dumb question, is this normal? When I use the quick set function, the date flips at midnight.

Pursuant to the card that came with the watch, there is (was) a two year warranty. Guess I am out of luck for an in-warranty service. Should I just live with it or bite the bullet and have the watch serviced? Cosmetically it is in very nice condition and it keeps reasonably good time.

Or at 12:04 am?

The date advances at 4:00 a.m.

A qualified watch repairman should be able to sort it out. No need for the full RSC treatment unless you feel you need it. Some forum members in the L.A. area can probably recommend reputable shops for Rolex service.

He won't even need a service - just a watch maker to remove the hands, then without the hands advance the time until the click over, then place the H, M and S hands at the 12:00 position. Having said that, a service might not hurt.

No, it is not normal.

But it still would not be something that I would worry about, it isn't going to harm your watch. I'm not really sure when any of mine actually change.

Lemme get this straight...

You bought the watch in 2015.
You joined TRF in 2015.

And you only found out about the date change issue, now after 5 years??

I think this blew my mind more than the watch...

I am usually not up after midnight to notice, and I don't wear the watch that often. Just spotted the issue for the first time yesterday. Maybe it was always that way.

Seems strange the date flips at midnight if I pull the crown and use the date quick set function, but flips at 4:00 a.m. if the watch is simply running.

Not the end of the world in any case.

Like you said, not the end of the world, but it is weird and shouldn’t be happening

But honestly, if it’s keeping good time, I would leave it until you need a service a couple more years down the line

It sounds like the hands are already set but something happens to trip the date change mech at 4:00am.

Rolex uses a cam system for the date change and that can only happen when the hour hand has made two complete revolutions around the dial.So like you say its a problem that the date change does not slide off the date change cam could be something simple lack of oil on cam to much oil or a simple cam fault.
