Is your neighbor a watch guy?

Only a WIS can appreciate this! I was in my front yard this morning watering my new sod front lawn my neighbor was mowing his lawn. After he was done we started talking about our yards when he noticed I was wearing my Tudor hat and asks me “are you a watch guy” I laughed and said you’re the first person who recognized the brand on my hat! I had already noticed he was wearing a watch mowing his lawn, I asked what’s on your wrist and he shows me a Sub no date, I was wearing my sub date. Now the conversation went from our yards to how we acquired these watches in the past year, state of our collection, etc!

My next door neighbour is my father in law, he is a watch guy and has quite a few watches, they are all cheap quartz Citizens, Seiko or lesser known brands and I doubt any of them were acquired new. That’s what a WIZ wants, who worked his butt of doing moderate wage manual labour for more than 40 years, and saved and sweated to own a nice little home and rental property.

He used to constantly ask me to pop open an case to change batteries or resize his bracelet, I bought him an automatic Tag-Heuer Dive watch a couple of Christmas ago. Most of the time my wife and I buy him something ‘nice‘ he just stores it for some special occasion that never comes. I’m gratified to say this TAG hasn’t left his wrist since I sized it for him and showed him how to unscrew the crown, and wind and set it.

Happy Father’s Day Mr. R!

Ah that's nice. It's sad that the conversation now becomes how did you manage to acquire that model rather then anything to do with the watch. The new normal of buying Rolex over the past 3 yrs!

My neighbor two houses down is one, he even gave me a new copy of ‘A man and his Watch’ because he had two.

A couple of others are not WISs but they like nice watches also.

Also lucky enough that they are car guys also! Bonus.

Not here, I’m all alone in 2 aspects.. #1 I am a watch guy with a everyday 16570 polar and none of my neighbors OR friends are watch guys. #2 I am a gun and night vision guy, I have a lot of guns and dabble in night shooting and none of my neighbors gun nuts!
