WG Daytona leather strap or all gold
I've been looking for a next watch and came along these two options.
Which one would you choose and why? How is the quality of the leather strap? I've tried on the everose and Yellow gold on but my gf thinks the wg is the best looking and isn't an eyecatcher like those other Daytonas what is a positive thing imo :) because when I wear my new YG Sub 116618 LN everybody notices it and after a while thats quite annoying... |

Very good point about the yellow gold. For understated elegance, you can't beat WG and I think personally think the bracelet would be better for your purposes. I would choose the leather strap if you were only using it for a formal watch. If you wanted both formal and sport wear, the metal bracelet gives you more options.

I think most prefer with a bracelet, but I find the strap brings out the dial even more, and I like the lighter weight of the watch. Either way, you have a classic.

I think it all comes to what YOU like. Try them on and see how do you like them. IMHO, I like the strap version; it can be both sporty and elegant and stands out. Also, the WG is subtle, and does not 'scream' gold. But once again, we all have different tastes, so trying them will give you the answer.
Either way, it is a fantastic watch. |

Are there any persons over here who have a Daytona with the authentic leather strap and can tell me something about how it wears and if you can wear it on a daily basis without wearing out the leather? |

Leather is very comfortable and, with the Daytona clasp, wear is minimal. I have other leather strap watches with the traditional 'tang' buckle and wear on the strap is nasty. The AD got me an extra strap, so I have a spare (which makes me, a WIS, very happy!)

Pics of Panerai, tang buckle; Rolex 1803 DayDate, tang buckle; both have impressive wear on the strap. Daytona, deployment buckle; little wear.

thank you for your pics.
And can you order the gold strap afterwards or is that impossible or way to expensive? because maybe I want to change bracelets from time to time :) |

My dream watch for today is a WG Daytona on a leather strap (the exact one pictured). I tried it on (without the diamonds...) and it just felt sooo good.

Not sure if this will help you. I bought mine on strap because lets face it, the bracelet was a huge $$ amount more. I am worried about wear on the gold. I like the leather strap, it is very comfortable. I have some aftermarket straps that I use to vary the color and prevent excess wear on the stock strap. I would say that the original strap is very high quality, but of course it will show wear. My intention is to buy a new SS bracelet someday if/when they have the new clasp like on my DeepSea. Here's the pic!

Is it better to buy the all gold first and order the leather strap or the other way around? |

I wouldn't buy a gold bracelet. Don't get me wrong, it looks great, but it looks like the SS bracelet, but a softer material. The only reason I got the WG Daytona was because its the only way the Meteorite dial is made. I'd like to try mine on a stainless bracelet.

Ifyou buy the gold (case and bracelet) daytona, you can not fit the Rolex strap on it. |

Get the WG with bracelet. This is the only all gold sports watch that actually gets away with it in IMHO.
You can always get a leather strap or rubber later.

The strap is very comfortable, very light, and enhances the look of the watch case and dial (IMO). Of course, I also own a YG Daytona with bracelet, so I have the option of which one to wear on a given occasion. If I had to choose between the two, I'd keep the bracelet model not only because it is worth more, but because I prefer it. The WG on bracelet is a beautiful watch. I just prefer YG. I just think gold should look like gold (i.e., yellow); that's my preference (though there is a WG Patek I'd really like to own and one WG Daytona I'd go for). I would note also that I don't buy the idea WG is necessarily less noticeable. Not long ago, I was sitting in the RSC in Tokyo, and a guy who was also waiting was wearing a WG Daytona (black dial) on a black strap. IMO, his WG watch was much more of an attention getter than my YG strap version. I literally couldn't take my eyes off his watch. Had I had the money, I would have made an impulse buy later in the day to get the same model. I always tell people my SS Daytona sometimes seems to be my "blingiest" watch (and I own three YG watches) because it shines so much in bright light, and WG shines even more. To me, if you combine the SS-like white metal look of WG with the natural glow of gold, you've got a portable lighthouse on your arm. Of all the WG sport watches I've seen, I like oztimelord's model the best. It's got the classic look of the Daytona and the black, red, and WG combination is hard to beat. The great thing, however, is that you can't go wrong with any of the Daytona line. Sometimes it seems whichever Daytona is on my arm at the moment is the absolute best one! Of course, I like my 166528 best of all! |
