A nice little story about a young man and his watch journey

Back in February, I was in a small jewelry store in Carmel CA. They are a small dealer for Omega and Patek, they have a small pre-owned selection, and regular jewelry.

There was a young man, fresh out of college - had graduated the previous May. He is a construction supervisor and his job is going well. He was wearing a 79230N and loved it. It was his second watch. Earlier, he had stumbled on a speedy reduced on ebay for a good price, and bought it. But instantly regretted it as it was kinda plain. But he redeemed himself with the 79230N.

He loved my Speedy-Pro on Leather, my 116710LN, and my OP1500. I was traveling with all 3 to show my Dad.

We talked for quite a bit, and he asked if he can stay in touch. We exchanged numbers, texted pleasantries and wished each other a nice day.

Fast forward to late March - he texted me with a picture of a 16750 Tritium in pristine condition that he had acquired. He was in love with that beautiful watch. Big congratulations came from me, and I shared a pic of my BB58 I had acquired in the meantime.

Well, he texted again this morning to show a pic of his brand new BB58 Blue! Again, he was ecstatic. We talked a little more and one of his comments was "I’m not really sure why she gave me this one. " Well, I know those awesome folks at Fourtane and I told him it's probably because they can see the passion in this you," as a young man.

I'm so happy for this young man, and for our beloved hobby. Hopefully, more youngsters will appreciate the finesse of mechanical watches, fine craftsmanship, and the camaraderie that comes with the hobby.

Considering all the tribulations of 2020, this was nice.

I don't know what a 79230N is.

Nice story - you seem like a nice person and the world could do with more like you right now.

Actually the Black Bezel. The difference is the 79230N has a Steel Case. N is for Noir, or Black.

The BB DArk is Black PVD Case, and also a very sharp watch. It's the 79230DK.

The subtleties get confusing.

Cheers, and Happy 4th of July.

Great story OP and thanks for supporting a young collector. I certainly could have used that positive nudge when I first started my WIS journey
