Best Parka?
Yes, I know it's still only July, but....
I need to get 'the management' a really good, warm winter coat as, come October she'll be feeling the cold. When walking in the snow last year, wrapped up in 12 'layers' and a Burghaus quilted coat, I was still getting earache about her being cccold. I have a Canada Goose parka which is brilliant, and I'm tempted to get her something from their range. Just wondering if, any members here, that live in the very, very cold parts of the world, have any suggestions or recommendations? |

I have a Quartz down parka. Very similar to Canada Goose but a more modern fit for my body type.
You will pay dearl for either but the reduction in ear damage will be worth it!

When doing my research almost 8 years ago for materials, warranty, and price I went with Canada Goose.
Since I currently have 3 Canada Goose cold weather coats I should be set for a good long time. If I were looking now I might just have to re-research this all over again.

Yes, and I also have a coat very similar to that but that's not a parka.

I am not sure if the model, I have had this since perhaps 1999. It has a zip in layer and with the outer layer and the inner layer, I can’t wear it in temperatures over 25 degree Fahrenheit otherwise it’s way to hot. I have worn it in temps down to 0 and have never once been cold when wearing it.

My wife has a Canada Goose for the frigid days that she loves, with a couple of caveats. The hood is non-removable on her model and it has wire or something at the front of the hood so it holds its shape. This makes driving in it a pain in the rear. Otherwise, it is cut in a flattering way and quite warm.
The one other brand she's mentioned is Moose Knuckles. I have one of their parkas, which is awesome, and it was next on her list as well. I think she just likes the decorative fuzzy balls.... |

Personally I also opt for a smaller size since layering in my part of the world and what I do is not necessary. I also considered Moose Knuckles but at the time their materials and lack of warranty were an issue for me.

Also recommended - a thermal base layer and cashmere jumper underneath

A couple years ago I went to Nordstrom to get a Canada goose jacket, they were out. I called a buddy who runs a pro shop at a private club. He told/hooked me up with kjus, I’ve added a few more of their jackets and vests since. Real good stuff imo

Good shout. I have a Canada Goose and a North Face but would certainly be looking at Woolrich if I was starting again.

Another vote for Canada Goose. I’ve had mine for a few winters now, best parka I’ve owned.

Woolrich would be one I would consider as well.

Seasonal sales, all you have to do is keep an eye out for them. I get emails from many places, makes it even easier.

I just climb up Everest and pull them off the bodies. So many to choose from new and vintage.

Thank you, everyone, for your, positive input, much appreciated.
'Her Ladyship' has made her choice. We both spent a lot of time looking at all the options mentioned here, and quite a few that weren't. There are lots of brands which market items, that are 'fashion first', and any functionality seems to be almost an afterthought. All very nice, and all very expensive, if you just want to look like you're keeping warm. Most of the, 'top' brands also have a fashion aspect to a lot of their garments....urban fire bud, free form camo etc, etc. Fortunately, Canada Goose, don't seem to have completely abandoned the functionality aspect of their best parkas. As I've said I have owned one of their coats for a few years and my wife was always impressed that I could comfortably wear just a shirt under it, on a bitterly cold day. We did seriously consider a Moncler coat, but I think she heard my bum clench when we saw the price. So, we're going with a Canada Goose - Trillium. Thanks again chaps! That, Weatherwool stuff tho'... |

I like to think of it as recycling. Very few men of my physique (read 0) make it up Everest so I rarely find one that fits.
