Some one is building some townhouses near hear with a similar idea.
A sort of garage door, on the souther exposure, can open open up leaving the front room open. Not sure how quickly you can close it if it starts to rain.

Now...
I don't want to brag but then, I don't often get the chance but in 2006 I designed a swimming pool house which used the same concept for a client who was converting an old friary hospice. Due to the age of the original building, there were many conservation and planning issues with a "pool house" addition to the grounds. To get over it, I designed a structure that was to be segmented glass and steel and each section slid back into the previous unit before disappearing into a stained timed outhouse "housing". That way the client could have an indoor pool but could argue that when summer arrived the poolhouse could vanish and therefore not detract from the existing historical vernacular. It took a bit of effort and a lot of admin to find a company prepared to build it and supply the mechs but we got there in the end. I have just realised that this could very well be the first serious post I've written about what I do!!!!!!!!! J |

Very cool; you too, Jim.
This is silly of me, but I had the thought that geez, better get the kids and pets out of the way when that thing starts sliding! |
