Jewlers Mutual question and general opinions

Any users here have any experience with Jewlers Mutual who have filed a claim(s)? Does JM replace your watch or do they give you a check for the insured value? Also does anyone have any general feelings or opinions on going with JM over homeowners?

They will replace it, takes forever but Yes, until you need to use it! After you use it, they will drop you! I just use my home owners insurance now!

I've never used JM. And, I've never placed my watches/jewelry directly on my homeowner's. I have a $0 deductible Personal Articles Policy that's written by the same company that writes my homeowner's, auto, life, etc.

JM's prices are comparatively astronomical. I pay somewhere less than $5.90 per $1,000 of insured value per year for my watches and jewelry. For S&G, I just priced JM - they want $361 per year to insure a $19K watch - that works out to $19 per $1,000 of value. So, it's over 3x as expensive as my personal articles policy. I also ran a scenario for the face value of all of my covered watches and jewelry on my policy and it came back even more expensive - $22.50 per year per $1,000 of coverage.

I made one claim on my personal articles policy - seven years ago. A Rolex was stolen from my car. I purchased the watch in 2003 for $3,950. The value adjusts annually for inflation.

For about 10 days, State Farm tried to find the same watch for the face value of my policy (at the time, somewhere around $6,500 or so) and couldn't. So, they called me and told me I could choose to have them purchase me a new Rolex and I pay the difference or they could send me a check for the full face value of the policy. I told them to send me a check. I came here and bought one from a TRF seller and had a little left over.

My premiums didn't increase (on either my HO or my personal articles policy) and State Farm didn't drop me.

My policy covers loss, theft and accidental damage regardless of where I am.

So, I've never seen any benefit whatsoever of going to JM, paying 3x more and not getting any better of a policy.

Search this subject you will find many responses about JM vs homeowners.

Now from my experience, yes I have filed a claim and watch was replaced promptly. They ask you which AD you would like to use and they will work directly with them to replace it.

And even though they have paid a claim of mine for 10k, they have not dropped me.

I highly recommend JM.
