What is your ULTIMATE Fantastic FIVE?

The goal...

Build a collection of five (5) watches that offers the best combination of “balance, timelessness, versatility, and value.” You don’t have to provide specific references or details — just the collection.

READ THESE RULES CAREFULLY:

1. Watch #1 must be a Rolex.
2. Watch #2 must be an Omega.
3. Watch #3 must be a Patek.
4. Watch #4 must be a Lange.
5. Watch #5 is a WILD CARD. It can be any watch under $20,000 but it can’t be a Rolex, Omega, Patek or Lange. It can be VC, Breitling, Zenith, Seiko, or whatever.

Here is an example:

1. Rolex Daytona
2. Omega Seamaster
3. Patek Calatrava
4. Lange Odysseus
5. Breitling Navitimer

You can offer your own Fantastic Five or modify someone else’s to “perfect” it. If you just want to comment, that’s fine too.

Enjoy!

You nailed the iconic “if I can only have one from this brand” models. Great strategy. Not sure you can get a new Royal Oak for under $20,000... but great effort.

No idea why people aren’t engaging with the theme

These threads come up all the time and it’s just a wall of Rolex. Yea I get it’s a Rolex forum but collecting and diversity is always good, I normally don’t post on these but I like this theme!

It’s all good, brother. Oysterflex Daytona, huh? Interesting choice for an Ultimate Fantastic Five.

Amen, brother. It’s just a discussion topic — not life or death. I know Rolex enthusiasts can apply some analytical critical thinking here!!!

BTW, your selections really give us a great window into your particular style and taste for chronos and subdials. That’s how it’s done!

my thinking was I can’t not have a dual time zone watch and unlike a patek travel time for example, the pepsi can be thrown on a rubber strap and double as a diver.

that and I’ve never been quite daytona crazy, and I’ve got two other chronos in the bunch.

Nice question. Here’s my take on it - technically within your rules (certainly not within my budget or reality) I believe

1. Watch #1 must be a Rolex ~ Paul Newman’s, Paul Newman Daytona
2. Watch #2 must be an Omega ~ the lost Speedmaster of Buzz Aldrin (I don’t think Neil Armstrong’s actually went onto the moon and stayed in the shuttle)
3. Watch #3 must be a Patek. ~ Salmon Dial Patek 5004
4. Watch #4 must be a Lange. ~ Lange 1 in Steel
5. Watch #5 is a WILD CARD ~ Tudor Black Bay 58 Navy Blue (because I’d need a watch that I could actually wear out of the house! )

What is your ULTIMATE Fantastic FIVE?

1. Rolex Daytona 6263 silver dial big red
2. Omega Speedmaster 345.0802
3. Patek 2499 rose gold
4. Lange Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon black dial
5. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak offshore diver 42mm

The under 20k and not Rolex or Omega was tough to figure out. Was between AP diver and Panerai Submersible, but I’m happy where I landed.

Fun thread - thanks for this OP!

I don’t care about balance, I like what I like:

1. Watch #1 must be a Rolex. Rolex 6238 Black dial pre-Daytona chronograph - went up against the Speedy and lost, it's rare, it's all black.
2. Watch #2 must be an Omega. Omega Speedmaster pro 105.012-66 CB - Personal reasons but also it's the moonwatch, it's what Omega is known for.
3. Watch #3 must be a Patek. Patek 5170p blue dial, Tiffany signed. - There are more expensive Pateks, but this one has my favorite dial and the tiffany signature is icing on the cake.
4. Watch #4 must be a Lange. Lange datograph perpetual tourbillon platinum black dial. - ALS is already thick, might as well go for broke with the complexity. i like blue dials better, but you don't get a Lange for the dial side.
5. Watch #5 is a WILD CARD. AP Royal Oak Chrono 25860, 39mm blue dial. - My current favorite watch, would be hard to part with it.. I also need something that doesn't break in the rain.

Care to elaborate?? You honestly don’t find any Speedmasters or Seamasters attractive?

I don't have problem to add some omega to my collection if the price happens to be right, but I yet to find any one that I can think of to make it to the “ultimate fantastic five" with passion. I can name a few models from JLC, PAM, Blancpain, IWC or even Cartier.
