PP Nautilus Jumbo was the first luxury sports watch

Nothing wrong with that, but AP/PP are dress watch companies at their core and if it was one of PP chronos, that’s a different story. But to me the PP you are considering is like gshock coming out with a dress watch. It’s just not in their DNA. If you want a sport watch, the GMT wins hands down and has real heritage. The PP model you are considering has no heritage.
I'm not sure what you mean by PP trying to "cash in" on sports watches. As far as luxury sports watches go, the 1976 Jumbo Nautilus red3700 was the birth of luxury sports watches. Jaeger-LeCoultre's Reverso is considered the first sports watch, but the horolgical icon of high-end sports watches goes to the Nautilus, and I've never heard anyone debate that Gérald Genta didn't infact pioneer the style.

What I mean is Rolex was making lots of money selling sport watches and PP while extreamly well respected was and is a dress watch company.
Rolex was not cheap at the time and PP thought they could start to slide in on the sport watch movement. Now of course they were not going to price them lower, and so the lux sport watch was born. Now, they were and are not making better or more robust watches than Rolex, simply making less of them and have some hand finishing. PP/AP brought in an outside consultant to grab some sport watch market-albeit the high end to push the boundary. And let’s face it, they were not all that successful for many years until salaries among the top 3-5% income earners exploded.

But to me, it’s like that will Farrell movie the elf, where the book company is struggling and so they can’t come up with their own idea and brings in this famous consultant to give them a “hit”. I also disagree that that the PP nautilus is a luxury sport watch, it’s a dress watch masquerading as a sport watch.

The GMT meteorite is beautiful, it’s just not something I could wear regularly. That said, the 5711 wins out for me...eventually I’ll buy one, but only if I can manage to get it at MSRP ;)

Personally i don't get the Nautilus. It's really just a 30K watch hyped up by demand. The meteorite GMT is a special watch. PM, GMT complication and a gorgeous dial that came from a meteor. How cool!

Ah yes, pin-tube system, fragile movements and plastic filling in the gold twenty4 links. Much better than Rolex indeed.

Patek has disappointed me in more ways than I thought possible.

I personally like the nautilus and have a 5712 which i would take everyday over the 5711 and the meteorite dial.

But, in this case it would be no question a GMT II wins this, my only change would be the blue dial GMT versus the Meteorite, but thats just personal opinion. I think the Blue dial is handsome and timeless, better than black by far, and the meteorite is nice, i just feel its out of place a little on this sports watch.

It's like comparing two different spectrum. 5711 is the simplest nautilus with clear lines. very plain. The GMT meteor has a busy dial and bicolor bezel. Do you want a plain watch or a busy watch?

I love to read a watchmaker's opinion.
