Your Best Drunken Watch Purchase
Love to hear your stories. One cold winter day, I was at a local brewery. After one too many double IPAs, I started browsing Bobs Watches. I remember meeting the owner once before and I thought “he’s a great guy. I’ll buy a watch from him”. So I bought a Hulk lol.
What I didn’t remember from that night was I also bought a black bay 58 (ETA) lol. I found that out a few days later. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I went to Las Vegas for my bachelor party. Ended up winning about 50k on craps and roulette. Bought the Batman gmt when it first came out back in 2015. While I don’t believe I was drunk, the wheels were def greased. Great watch and When I wear it I always remember that weekend.

I've come close... But never bought a Rolex while intoxicated. Never drunk though, always high

I’ve never bought a watch drunk. I usually just buy more drinks when I’m drunk.

This is why many ADs offer wine or champagne.

Not drunk but traveling in Dubai. Went to the mall to look at watches and saw a Tag Heuer smart watch display but was unable to see the watch.
Back in the hotel room with tablet doing some research on the watch. Must have been on eBay also searching the watch. Next thing I know I woke up to find an email congratulating me on my £1000 purchase. Needless to say I managed to stop the purchase and also disable the one touch eBay purchase facility on my account. |

I have never bought a watch sober. That would be boring. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Panerai in St.John, BVI. Wife went shopping, I went afternoon drinking with no intention of buying a watch - you know how it goes - seemed like a GREAT idea at the time. Nice watch though, still have it. Wife is still around too. Beer is good.

I've never bought a watch with the aid of alcohol, but I have had a drink or two to help celebrate a watch purchase.

Years ago I was browsing the for sale section on a different site, and I sent the seller the "I'll take it" message for a Panerai. In my book, that's the same as pressing the purchase button. So the next day I realize what I'd done, but it was a pretty much an oh well moment. Followed through on it and that was that. It was a great watch that I ended up trading for my first Rolex.

However if I didn’t know the seller I wouldn’t of gone through with it lol. |

the thought of puchasing a rolex (or any high-end timepiece) while inebriated is absolutely terrifying to me

You got to be on another level of wealthy or lacking in sound mind to drunkenly spend thousands on a watch or anything costing thousands for that matter. Guess I'm fortunate(or not rich enough) to never have gotten so drunk to act irresponsible, never saw the point. I love to enjoy a nice wine or scotch with a nice dinner or sweet girly cocktails(as my wife says) by the pool or beach while on vacation.
Honestly, I would find it shameful to even glorify or flaunt such behavior as acceptable. I would think this to be embarrassing showing a lack of judgement. I know for many employers(particularly government employment), researching your social media account history is part of the job interview, this wouldn't look too good. |

I don’t quite follow your logic. If you buy a Rolex it will still be worth what you paid for it tomorrow. What you do with your hard earned dollars should be entirely up to you and you alone. Any employer who thinks it’s acceptable to snoop into your private life and cast judgements is not someone that I’d ever want to work for anyway. My watches have made a lot more than my savings. Others are free to act according to what ever criteria they seem fit to use as sound judgement. |

So much judgement here.
Alcohol is a part of life. People buy things inebriated all the time - buying things on amazon while intoxicated is currently ‘trending’. Buying a watch that will only appreciate in value hardly seems irresponsible. Let’s be nice, positive and enjoy each-others purchases. |

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.f...decisions/amp/ I’ve held down important government roles in my time. In fact I left because of the fixation on judgmental attitudes which I always felt was very childish/playground like. The private sector has been much better to me and I’d never want to switch back. I am capable of making a decision after a few drinks that I can live with the next day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think sometimes people take things too seriously. I don't frequent many forums and avoid social media like the plague. However, this forum happens to be related to a passion I've had for nearly 25 years.
All my watches can tell a story and it is also nice to hear others stories as well. Take it for what it is. Most people think you are mad for wearing something on your wrist that in this day and age is redundant. With so much s*** going on in this world a little escapism is welcome |

Not sure what that's so supposed to mean. If I remember that post it was in reference to needing guidance or not being able to decide for yourself. Not sure how it relates to buying watches drunk. I don't mean to come off judgmental as I have my own demons like everyone else, just this one is easily avoided.
Either way, without going too far down this rabbit hole, I shared my opinion and a simple fact regarding social media awareness. This may or may not be important to anyone or perhaps it doesn't apply if you own your own business or private sector as the poster above, but it does exist. |

I had a good buzz on when I bought my Rolex. I’ve made deals over drinks for much more than the price of a watch so I don’t consider it irresponsible at all. It’s more or less how things are done around here and the group I invest with. Also for clarity I’ve held many positions in a few government jobs for the entirety of my adult career except for 3 yrs I was in the private sector. (My money came from investments, smart decisions and hard work, government jobs pay terribly for the most part.) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
