I love this watch, Nuff said.

It's even more gorgeous in person.

A rare case where the watch looks ugly on a picture and stunning in life, it looks completely different once you hold it in hands. I think a little lower price point would make this watch more common, I personally rather pay this much for Patek than for Rolex

So to keep that price level Rolex has to has really good reasons for.
1. Demand is so high they could not keep up.
2. Platinum is so difficult to process, hence quantity made not sufficient.
3. Rolex does not care about 1 and/or 2 above. Rolex wants to keep on dusting Platinum image and make any piece in Platinum holly grail at the end.
Which of those is?

Firstly, congratulations OP on a fantastic addition. Absolutely love this watch.

Here is my dilemma, been having this on my list for long but never pulled the trigger because of the hefty price and because I always think it is available anytime so I better focus on hard to find pieces.

Now an opportunity came up to build a relationship with a big dealer and get access to their "real" lists of their hot models (steel Daytona, Pepsi...etc) but their condition is to have a minimum spend history. Long story short, they offered me to buy the platona at only 10% discount and gain the "vip" tag in their books to seriously be considered for other steel hot models (not only rolex but also patek)

10% discount is on the lower side but discounts seem to be shrinking on pm models. Checking chrono 24 and Davidsw sites, I see a significant increase in the bnib platona prices as compared to end of 2017 beginning of 2018 so perhaps I am already late.

My questions are:

1- is it worth to spend 10% extra (I assume I can get up to 20% discount if I went grey dealer route) to build the relationship with the dealer?
2- if yes, which dial I should go for? I love both dials very much and keep bouncing back and forth. The diamond dial is 10k more expensive, is it worth it?

Thanks for the help.

i bought a platona for 30% off no tax in dec 2017 gained vip status at an AD. got the call for the ceramic white daytona, hulk, and batman a month later. since then i got the call for sky dweller blue, jubilee pepsi, black daytona ceramic & jubilee batman.

would work if you're buying from a not so high traffic ad.

Does anyone know if the platinum Daytona has been updated in any way since the release in 2013?

No change. Only additional dial option.

I do think the bezel is slightly different though. But officially no change.

What’s the addition dial, baguette? I presumed they came out together how much later did the baguette dial come out if so?

Thanks for your replies. I read somewhere that the clasp adjustment system changed slightly but could be wrong

No change in clasp. You’re probably think the 116520 which did have a change in clasp mid way through the life span.

Thats the diamond hour indices version.

Personally prefer the 'standard' with the brown subdials.

I've thought of upgrading mine to the diamond dial but it's not really worth the 7k cost imho. As was said, pic or it didn't happen!!!!

I do wonder why any company says 'Price on Request'...it almost implies they are charging too much and are a bit embarrassed to admit it. Great watch but if they made a gold variant with ceramic bezel, I would find it hard to justify the extra expense.
