Without Internet?

When and how long was the last time you were without an internet connection?

Last time I recall was in Peru along the Amazon near Puerto Maldonado, for three days while in the jungle! Heck we only had electric for 10 hours each day!

I kind of miss the no internet days, but I can’t really remember the last time I was without it honestly.

There are parts in the US without cell service. Sometimes it’s a nice reminder of how reliant we are on our phones and apps.

My last “offline” experience was last year at a very nice place in Virginia called the Inn at Little Washington. The Inn did have WiFi but we chose to stay disconnected.

I remember this winter the power went out for a few hours and I was beside myself with boredom. Mainly because it was dark too, and I couldn't even read a book.

It's amazing how much I rely on the internet... I need one of those digital detox vacations.

On a cruise in 2015. It was great. I’m looking forward to my next vacation. Wherever it is we are planning on an internet ban during it.

I manage rural vacation rental homes in wine country and the first question people ask is hows the Wifi.

Never mind that they are coming to wine country to relax and to get away from it all.

And should there be an outage which is completely out of my control, the complaining and crying is almost childlike.

That's really a shame. I like having internet at home... it's part of my routine. But when I am away it wouldn't bother me a bit if I didn't have access. In fact it would be great.

Camping/off road trips. No more than 3-4 days at a time. I admit I'm really reliant on internet access for my work, and just habits of news/finance.

I think most of it is because then they would actually have to have wholesome time with their kids instead of plopping them down in a corner somewhere and shoving a screen in their face.

For a week last year when we went on a cruise to the Caribbean Islands.

We did pay for some kind of internet but it was slower than molasses so we gave up trying to use it.

It was honestly nice without!!

The problem is the internet connection is more than social media and texting.

I only read books from Kindle, watch mostly streamed TV and read news from the internet, do online banking, shop on Amazon and a lot of people now have their home completely connected.

I have no issue with no "connection" on vacation but unfortunately the world collapses without the internet now. As with anything that started as a convenience, it is now a necessity.

Haven’t been without since that day Al yelled across the room, “Start it up!”

Of course, that was before he ran for VP & later Pres. Heck, the 3 of us literally wired the thing one weekend...

And we thank you. Someone had to foresee the future.

And in just a weekend.

Funnily enough, last night during a storm. Used my phone as a hotspot though, so not quite the end of the world

I’d I had full time internet around my house in 99 maybe. School came way before then. Last time I went without it, I cannot remember but when I do, I generally don’t care.

What brought this question to mind was, a few days ago I ran out of the house, quickly and forgot my phone.

Driving in my older truck, that has no internet connection, I found a few moments of peace and quiet! It was so relaxing......I literally stopped along the highway and rested, in sheer bliss, knowing anything and everyone, can just wait until my return!

The roses smelt great!

Yeah same... early adopter of high speed and wi-fi. I love it and I hate it now.

Finding a payphone to return the beep, turned out to be somewhat troublesome?

On purpose? My last trip to Afghanistan.

Accidental? A major snowstorm 7 years ago that knocked out our power for 5 days. Cell phones lasted a day or so, then we were dark for the rest of the time. Massive snow drifts blocked the roads for most of that time, so we mostly sat around looking at each other.
