It's like the waiting list scenerio...I've always been dubious as what stops the AD from selling it to somebody he likes more since no deposit has changed hands?

You trust the guy though so that's cool enough for me.

Brian, call me a pessimist (which I may be ) but I don't believe the SDDS was sold by mistake. Someone paid full price. IMO.

Thanks for the good wishes and sentiments. No grief - all's cool. I m a repeat customer, who has spent money on three Rolexes, as well as other jewelry. The jeweler has been in business since 1922. A bad reputation spreads fast. I think he would be foolish to play games with me. I believe he is smarter than that.

I told him I would call him today to wrap things up. I'm going to tell him that I am going to pay sales tax, but all I will pay is $21,600 ($20,000 + $1,600 sales tax). If he wants to blow the deal and potentially lose a customer over $500 so be it. While I would like to own the three watches, $21,600 isn't so bad to have either.

Pav, that very well may be true. I don't begrudge him. He's entitled to make a buck. If he gives me a great deal, I am willing to wait. But he will have to wait for his money too. Since he said the Milgauss and the Daytona are in the safe in the back, he cannot claim that the they got sold my mistake in the interrim. You know the store, I don't think they would play games, do you?

That's it Brian, thats the attitude you need to have to get this deal done. He needs you tons more than you need him so let him know that. AD's are sticklers I know, but at the end of that day its all about how much money they made and we both know he's making way more than a $500 profit. Make it a take it or leave it scenario, and get some goodies thrown in right now too. Theyve been able to stick to their guns for the past several years when the economy was booming, now were at a point where we can stick to our guns. He'll take the deal

What kind of goodies are you referring to?

His profit margin is 40% on SR I believe. With a SR of $25,675, that means is gross margin is $10,270. At this point he is offering $5,175 off, or approximately 1/2 his margin. He still will have a gross profit of $5,095.00, or a 20% margin. If I get the additional $500 off, his margin goes to a little under 18%. Not that big of a deal, as I see it.

I hate that the economy is the way it is, but if there is one silver lining it gives us access to things we might not have had in boom time. I would just squeeze everything out of the deal that I could, just like they have done us in the past with "no discount" and them not giving an inch. Well now its your turn, just get the very most you can out of the deal. IMO go in there and say this is what I will do, $20k plus tax and several extra polishing cloths. (or whichever goodie you prefer) No negotiation, just tell him that will be the deal, he can take it or leave it. Trust me, he will take it. Were not here to make them happy, theyre here to make us happy and with you spending the kind of money you have spent there, I think you deserve for the AD to go the extra yard.

I appreciate your point. I must say that this AD has always been very good to me. For example, a year ago when the SS GMT IIC was first hitting the stores, he gave me a 20% discount, when most AD's were trying to get full SR. So, in my opinion, this Ad has never been a pig, so to speak.

Well Brian you did not have a 'done deal' yet so they were entitled to sell any or all of the watches I would assume. They did not have a deposit from you or any type of guarantee you were going to buy them. And if AD knows they are getting another DS soon then why not sell the one in the case. AD can get most watches very quick nowadays from Rolex or other AD.

I saw the milgauss and the DS in the case and I am sure they would have sold them to me. I could have even asked for the Daytona.

Honestly, I don't think that AD would play games but they are in business to make money (without making people upset and harming their future profitability).

The deal is done. $20K (plus sales tax - my choosing). I didn't push any further. I felt that wouldn't be right. The SDDS should be in from Rolex Wednesday or Thursday.

The saddest part of all of this is the imminent demise of this thread :(
