Panerai Accuracy?

So, I bought the PAM 1028 a few weeks ago, movement is caliber P.9010.

I brought it home and, over the course of just under a week, it consistently lost 8.5spd - it really never waivered from that number.

So, I took it back to the dealer where I bought it and they said it needed to be regulated. Went and picked it up yesterday and, so far, over about 36 hours, it's gaining 7.5spd.

I'm not used to this..... my Omegas, Rolex, Cartier, etc. are all within a couple of a seconds per day and they vary from day to day. This one is very consistent, but just consistent with gaining or losing.

Is this at all common for the brand or is it more likely specific to this watch?

I have the 979 with the p.9010 as well and for nearly 4 months it has been at +2 spd and I’m impressed. So I would think with a proper regulation you can get closer to spec.

I would not be happy going from -8.5 to +7.5.

What did the dealer say when you discussed this with them?

Well, they didn’t regulate it well. It’s not the movements fault. All my p.9010 moments are rock solid at +1/+2 a day. Take yours back and have them do it again. Make sure you fully wind it 60 times to check it’s accuracy. The p.9010 movement is a outstanding design and capable of easy under a second a day.

Can’t speak to the movement you have. My P3000 manual wind is quite accurate though.

PAM01033 with 9011 movement is +5 sec a day. The good new it that it's very consistant, the 'bad news' is that regulation could be better. Nowadays for a 'premium' timpeice i feel +/-2 sec a day or better should be the norm.

Before doing anything else try this.

First, +7.5 a day isn’t horrible. Watches tend to slow down over time in my experience, so it’s better to start ahead than behind.

But, in your certificate/warranty booklet there’s one page that shows how your watch runs in different positions. They test it in 6 positions, both at full wind and again at 24 hours after full wind. If you examine the chart odds are you’ll find at least one resting position that is slowest. Try to rest the watch in that position overnight for 8-10 hours. It should help.

I just took my 979 (P9010) in to the boutique, i'd been measuring it at -13, they are sending it to the workshop after testing it on their machine.

My other P9010 (a 1389) i measured at +7

Old measured:

375 (P3000/1) -7
663 (P3000) -2
913 (P5000) +2
233 (P2002/1) +10

All measured over the course of a week of wearing

Mine always runs fast but not sure the +-. Is it something that needs attention or if you’re ok with it then just let it be? I always have to go back a couple of minutes every couple of weeks.

My P3000 and my automatic movements have had no issues and keep accuracy as good as my Rolex and IWC pieces. I previously owned two Panerai with P5000 movements and had to sell them. They both ran +1 minute in 24 hours fully wound.

My 111 runs at +.05 SPD, 1305 at +1.5 SPD, 1024 at -4 SPD and my 372 is correct to the minute for about a month before it shows any deviation. I've had pretty good luck with Panerai and their movements.

All very accurate,slightly fast,usually around +2s.

422 is interesting ,after not being used it runs +25s/day fully wound .Then it settles after a day and very accurate if worn or placed on hard surface .Place it on a cushion in a box and it loses time .Moody beast . 9 years old,maybe just needs a service.

The P.9000 in my 351 now runs about +2 s/day consistently. When I first purchased it, it ran around +5-6 s/day. It took a couple weeks of daily wear to settle down.
