French cuffs

I’m finding a DJ or DD doesn’t easily slip inside a well fitted made to measure french cuff. Once exposed it will tend to sit along side the cuff.

Is this anything to worry about. Does anyone have their left hand cuff made bigger to accommodate the watch.

I’m guessing 6mm would be the max thickness so maybe something from the Cellini line or a JLC ultra thin or ALS Saxonia Thin would be more appropriate?

What dress watches do people find work best with a tailored cuff?

My 6 digit GMT fitted just fine. I can't imagine how a DJ or DD could be a problem.



Perhaps a small adjustment by your tailor would be in order.

I get all my shirts made with a 0.75 inch “watch allowance” on the left cuff, which greatly helps with sliding a watch underneath. The type of cuff links you use will also impact the tightness of the cuff around the watch.

If made to measure always give yourself some room on whatever wrist you wear your watch. I always go to the tailor while wearing my largest watch I would wear with a suit (my sub) that way if you decide to wear something smaller it will definitely fit. My tailor also mentioned that a few of his clients will not also make their sleeve diameter slightly larger, but will have the sleeve slightly shorter to show of their watch collection.

Same as others have suggested, I have the left made a little wider to accommodate my watch.

Never had an issue wearing French cuffs with any watch.

I wear french cuffs almost always.

My BBR doesn't fit under. My Tank does.

I thought about making my cuffs larger on my next batch of shirts - but don't think it's worth the effort.

Have the same issue. My DJ can catch my cuff. Almost convincing myself i now need a Reverso!

I have all my Bespoke dress shirts including my French cuffs made so I can wear a watch on my left wrist.

Yes - just get it cut slightly larger.

I tend to roll my sleeves up when not wearing a jacket though. Helps me get the job done.

I have my left cuff made slightly larger for my watch and never have any problems.
