Datejust 1601 Tiffany Dial
Greetings!
I'm new to the vintage rolex world and was hoping to get some thoughts on this Tiffany Dial Datejust 1601 on chrono24 - sold by a Swiss/German company called Rent a box, listed under the title "Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust ''Tiffany & Co'' - Ref. 1601 - AS NEW" (sorry, I'm not able to post link since I'm new here). I've read the authenticity sticky thread, but just wanted to hear some general thoughts about this piece. Too risky? Any red flags? Legit or no? Anyone know anything about this seller? Go for it or avoid? There is a blemish around the 58 min marker on the dial. Sorry for such noob questions but hoping to get the collective wisdom of this forum before I make a purchase. Thanks in advance!!! |

Nice piece. A “Tiffany” marking is meaningless without back up paperwork to prove it came that way from new, so unless you have that, take it with a pinch of salt
Nice dial, patina on the lume dots is about right – though I’d change the hands as they let it down somewhat (shouldn’t affect the value by a whole lot, especially if you can find some of the same age but in better condition) You can work out the price by comparing others for sale, then you are only discussing the “Tiffany” stamping. But leaving that aside, nice example …… |

Don’t like the dial nor the price. You be the judge but the 1st F in Tiffany is cocked and mis-spaced.
As already said, without the original Tiffany’s paperwork with matching Rolex papers - you are in the swamp. A google search of images will show that dial printing anomaly has been seen across different time periods. Very unusual since the stamps for applying the Tiffany logo did change over the years. My own conclusion is the same dial refinisher has added the logo to vintage watches he acquired at a low price and printed them to uplift the prices. An example Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I agree without the papers, and the anomaly in the printing on the dial, I would surely pass.
With Tiffany original papers are critically important in establishing authenticity.
