Recommend me a cheap vintage beater: Air-King 5500?

Well, it's pretty much all there in the thread title: Recommend me a cheap vintage beater: Air-King 5500?

I mean, it's classic-yet-common and can be picked up fairly easily and relatively inexpensively.

If not that, what?

The Air-King is a fair option depending on your budget. Otherwise, a well serviced DateJust 16** (1600, 1601, 1603) is an awesome entry-level beater, and a step up from the Air-King.

The old Tudor Jumbos are also awesome, if you can find them.

I have a 5500 and have for 4 years now. When I first got it I wore it almost constantly, and never had an issue with the 34mm size. These days I don't wear it all that often, but when I do, I always enjoy it. The Datejust is nice, but at least for me, there is something so nice about the simplistic, no date set up of the Air-King and the classic 34mm size. Really cant go wrong with it if you find a good condition example.

if 34mm floats your boat the Air King is great. Just make sure the size works for you.

Rootbeer is right. I have a Date-Just, and at 36mm it looks quite dainty. I rarely wear it.

Toooooo Smalllll. Unless you are OK w 34mm, I would go elsewhere.
