My wife though my buddy’s tag diver was the exact same watch as my subC date from across a dinner table.

Many giveaways most noticeable ones are the bezel and lug/bracelet width.
The new sub however can be mistaken with the SD43 but not to the trained eye.

I think the differing bezel markings should be visible from that distance.

This could work in your favor the next time she wants the Gucci shoes that look just like the Van's. ;-)

Not identical to me.

I think I could spot the different bezel insert from 5 ft away for sure.

But then again, I am always staring at peoples wrist.

Well said.

I could see how someone could easily get these two mixed up, especially if they're only superficially familiar with watches and/or observing from some distance.

I once had someone mistake my Deepsea for a Submariner, which to me seems unfathomable but it was a reminder that (a) the Sub is well known, and (2) not everyone understands the nuances of these divers.

Your expectations are far too high. This isn't 2013.

Oh, and your post triggered me

PS: Remember what happened on the Intenet before, then after AOL. Yeah, it's like that.

A Datejust looks like a Day Date from across the room too.

Get the cheap one and maintain proper social distancing..... nobody will be the wiser.

they look the same in the real world honestly. only difference i can spot is a no date vs date sub for obvious reasons, and if its a hulk. i suspect the new kermit will look like a regular sub in a lot of situations too. i never got the whole obsession over the red text, i remember posts on here where people said they want it because it distinguishes the watch from a sub, but no one will ever notice it besides the wearer
