AP 15500 New .. or Used PP Aquanaut 5167

Both are great picks, but at 2x retail on the 5167a, I’d go with the 15500.

The movement, bracelet and finishing on the AP are stellar.

I just cannot forgive how empty the 15500 dial looks compared to the 400 202 and 450

Both AP 15500st and PP 5167 at msrp are really worth to own.

AP 15500st at grey price isn't too bad, but PP 5167 is way overprice, not worth it.

personal views. AP but not at those prices unless it is blue. Aquanaut, get a spare tyre instead. Just kidding.

15500 since the 5167 is to small. And at the end of the day the Patek is not worth 40k.

At MSRP the PP. At grey prices, the AP.

15500/15400 any dial over the PP.

Against the 5167... Top up a little more and get the 15202 as many have already suggested. ($40k for a used 5167 is downright crazy IMO)

I am a ap guy but still gonna go with 5167a unless u are comparing it with 15202st, I feel like 15500st is quite oversized and in long term it’s easy to get boring with it

The one thing that bugs me about the 15500 or (or even on my wrist) 15400 is a bit too large. I don't on the 5167 but I've certainly tried them on before. 5167 is more confortable.

The thing to ask, is the year of the 5167. The model spans over a decade so I assume you are referring to getting a new or close to new 2019/2020.

Im probably in the minority but the 5167A is one of the best modern "everyday" style watch that exists. Its thin, its 40mm, its automatic, accurate, and reliable. It comes on a rubber strap, its water resistant to 120m, 20m than a Rolex Explorer. The dial is stunning but discrete, the WG numerals are beautiful. Its light and comfortable AND holds its value. The movement is also adequately finished.

The 15500 is ofcourse a fine watch too but I feel its needlessly large at 41mm and not as "versatile" as a 5167.

Both watches can easily exist in a single collection like it does for me.

I think it’s safe to say a 15407 would exist nicely in any collection!

A lot of this also boils down to current and future collection plans. I wear a 5167/1A about three weeks a month. The other week or so a RG AP 25960. If the AP were steel, it probably would be more even. But I wanted a PM watch in my collection.

As a daily wear watch, I love the flexibility of wearing the Aquanaut on the bracelet or rubber strap. The bracelet is more comfortable to me than the AP because of the flexibility. In the summer when it’s on rubber, it’s so light on the wrist.

To me the AP bracelet is the most visually appealing bracelet out there. The way the light reflects off of the angled surfaces is a work of art. The texture of the dials is also top notch.

So I love both for different reasons. That’s why my two watch collection is an an Aquanaut and a Royal Oak. Can’t go wrong.

Another POV, between the two, the 15500 wears significantly larger than the +1mm feels over the 5167. Keep that in mind.

Totally agree. I think the 15500 dial is perfect, but to each their own

I would set my sights on a 15202.

The 15500 wears too large for my taste, period. I also prefer the dial of the 15202. Even the 5167A wears quite large on my 6.6 inch wrists (certainly larger than my 5711/1A). I considered getting a preowned 5167A some 5+ years ago and did not like it enough to pull the trigger at 15k back then. Much less would I pay 40k now. It is an ok but not a great watch as far as I am concerned.
