I would wear the watch and enjoy it for a while. See what the timing is over the span of a few days to a few weeks and revisit it. When the watch acts up off it would go to the RSC in Dallas.

Wear and enjoy your GMT, and don't worry about having it RSC'd. My trusty GMT was circa 1984, and I chose to RSC it in 2018, mainly to certify its provenance and condition for re-sale. Ran great/looked great before and after.

I’d wear it for awhile. 5 seconds isn’t far off, especially for a watch that hasn’t been wound in quite some time


Also, parting with a new watch for 6-10 weeks sounds hard unless it’s truly broken

Just out of interest, where you say how it hasn’t been wound for some time, would you expect the timekeeping to improve with wearing it ?

If it's running perfect leave it alone. I bought a 116509 from 2007 last Jan. that had the green sticker still on it. Runs perfect to a few seconds a day. Asked around and most people I trust said don't service it if it's running perfect. I haven't serviced it and it still keeps equally good time to my 2020 Daytona. I'm in no rush to spend money on service. I have a Datejust I serviced once in 30 years and it runs perfect too with no issues. My non Rolex watches need service all the time because they stop running properly but my Rolexes are bulletproof! I just serviced my Sub 2 years ago with Rolex for the first time in 18 years and it was keeping better time before the service than after! Taught me a lesson. If it ain't broke......

Don’t send it in. Wear it for awhile. Last thing you want is to get it back from service with scratches.
