Icon20 Vintage tudor submariners

Hola Amigos!!

Hello!! I was shown a Tudor Submariner, circa 1972, today.

I had never had previous opportunity of having a vintage Tudor Sub in my hand, so I was rather curious about it.

Case was identical to 5513 Rolex sub, but obviously with Tudor inscriptions on dial, and marked with depth rating (200 m/660 ft) and word "Submariner" below.
Indexes are very rare as they are square Tritum markers, and the hour hand had a very strange shape, with a kind of square on its end.

As you may know, I already own Rolex Subs both present and vintage, but this Tudor awakened my curiosity about these beautiful Submariners made by Tudor.

I´d like to learn more about the Tudor Subs and their history.
Has this been discussed at TRF before?
Do any TRF member have a Tudor SUb like this, of more or less same era?
Do they have the same mechanism as Rolex 5513 Sub?

Will you show your Submariner Tudors of different refferences in this thread please?? Please advice reference # and year and any comment about your watch!

Thanks in advance for your kind attention, and best cordial regards, Abel.

Hola, Abel!
I have a mid 70's 9411 blue snowflake. Many Tudor fans here. But I have bad news: Tudors are as addicting as Rolex.
Here's a site with good info http://www.deskdivers.com/Site/Snowflake.html .
And a few pics.

Hi Dan! That´s a wonderful watch indeed!
Thanks for the link. I´ll study it thoroughly tonite at home.
The watch shown to me today, is identical to the first one shown in the other link I followed as reading your own link:
http://forumamontres.forumactif.com/...iner-t1013.htm

So its like yours, BUT with No date, and black dial and bezel. It also had a riveted Oyster bracelet.

Now, As I read about fakes in your link, I guess I have to be very careful, as I´m no familiar with Tudor Subs.

Thank you for showing your very nice Tudor Sub, and for the very complete info in the link.
Best cordial regards, Abel.

Here's a 1974 9411 Tudor Snowflake, like the ones above. This was originally a US Navy issue dive watch, so it had fixed spring bars. Like a dumbass, I had it sent to Rolex to have a NOS Tudor bracelet fit to the watch, and didn't give any thought to the originaity of the fixed bars. Either way, it has a nice history, and is a wonderful watch. I also have a NOS tritium bezel to go w/ it, as the watchmaker tossed the old, evenly faded grey bezel that was on the watch.

And w/ a friend:

Here's what it looked like before the overhaul...really wish they had left the bezel alone.

No SH!T!!!!!! I asked specifically that the IDIOT watchmaker keep the original insert, and he sh!tcanned it. I was so pissed when I picked up the watch that I could not even get the words out. It was evenly faded, and looked gorgeous. I can get over the springbars, but the insert really pisses me off, but I got another from Steve Mulholland to replace it, so I'm now only highly annoyed!

I managed to keep the original hands and dial, but the butthead watchmaker thought he was doing me a favor by putting in a new insert ..........(how do you insert an on-line scream for "fu*km3"?). ((mods, sorry for the insinuated foul language, but this instance really tweaks me...))

Hi friends for your kind responses.
Great watches have been shown here, as well as some astonishing hands and dials from our favourite Rolex parts collector Alex!
I easily understand Martin feelings about that watch repair man who "fixed" his watch. I regret that, but sometimes it happens, and we can´t do nothing about that.
This people are just repair men of watches for people who are not collectors or watch lovers, and just want their timepieces keep working, no matter other things.
I´ve learned a lot about these wonderful Subs, just looking at the pictures, and reading at the links supplied. I apreciate that.
A new world has opened before me regarding this type I had paid little attention before, but which with no doublt deserves a big place in diving watches or Submariner serious collecting.
Thanks for your nice kind attention to all fellow members!
Enjoy your Tudors!!
Very cordially, Abel

Abel,
You'll find a wealth of variety w/ the Tudor brand. Lots to learn but very worthwhile. If you buy a vintage Tudor you'll be just as proud to wear it as you do any Rolex. The price is better than vintage Rolex but they should continue to rise in the future cause they ain't makin any vintage like those anymore.
Good luck,
dP

I didn't realise that it is the hands that are the snowflake element. I thought they were supposed to represent a sword and shield. Thanks for the info. Abel, great post as usual, you have got the watch bug bad:thumbsup

Hi Dan!!
Hi Mark!

Thanks for your kind comments.

I have seen that those Tudor Subs are great beautiful watches indeed.

I have some doubts about the one being offered, as I´m not familiar with these watches, and have read the link Dan sent me above, and reading about the fakes in market, aroused many doubts.

I´ll keep looking around anyway, as I really liked the "snow flakes" model, as well as other variants of this Tudor Sub.

Thank you so much again for your kind help Dan and all friends at TRF which answered and showed their time pieces.
Best cordial regards, Abel

Old Tutor Prince Submariner

Greetings to all:
I'm a new member (first post) My watch is as follows:

Tutor Prince Submariner
S/N 4003XX
Model 7928
Pointed crown guard
acrylic crystal
about 46 years old

Watch has never been restored polished or modified but the watch band which came on the watch was changed out many years ago.

The watch has not been serviced in about 30 years. The watch has been in my desk for about 25 years. I took it out yesterday shook it for a while and then put it on my wrist. It is running but gained about 2 mins in 36 hours.

I need to have it serviced. Who would you have service such a old watch as this? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I hope to post some pictures. Thank you
