Watch Has Stopped Twice Already

Hi Everyone!

I recently acquired a new to me 16710. Since the watch has been in my possession, I wear it everyday from when I get up to when I go to sleep with the exception of showering and going to the gym (5x a week for 90 min - 2 hrs). Admittedly, I am doing very little activity while wearing it besides a 35 min walk around the park near my place in the morning as I work from home at a desk. All this being said, the watch has stopped twice already. Both times it stopped were when it was resting on my nightstand overnight. Is it possible it is not getting enough charge on my wrist? It is still under warranty as it was serviced in 2019.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

I will also add that the most recent time it stopped I fully wound it and it lasted about a week.

Sounds very much to me as if the rotor isn't spinning freely. If it's been serviced in the past 12 months then it should still be under warranty. Have it checked out as that definitely sounds like you have an issue.

I had the same problem. It turned out that my watch had somehow been magnetized. San Francisco Rolex specialist Giovanni Passalacqua opened the case and checked the movement and then suspected magnetism and tested it. Sure enough, that was the problem. After he demagnetized it it has kept perfect time and no more stopping.

Man, the gym, I miss the gym, or the Petrie dish as my wife and I call it....

It could be you need to go through the running it down to stop and winding it all the way back up a couple more times and then make sure the winder is moving freely. Or maybe it’s broken?

I had similar issue with a 16750 GMT. It would stop if not worn for about 8 hours or overnight. You could also hear the rotor turning inside as I moved my wrist.
Sent to RSC to investigate and right enough the rotor was the issue.

Have you ever given your watch a full manual wind if not do so,it needs 40 plus full crown turns clockwise only dont worry you cannot overwind. And yes wearing a watch does not wind the watch, its wrist activity that winds the watch. And with low movement you just top up to whatever the mainspring had in its power reserve to start with so eventually it will stop as mainspring power reserve is depleated. So even when wearing it, will do no harm to give a full manual wind once a week or so.

Buy a hand grinder for your coffee. Grinding just 26 grams of coffee to espresso grind got me 14 hours of juice in one experiment. Shaking one cocktail got me 6 hours.

If the hand-winding Peter recommended doesn‘t work, then your watch probably needs servicing.

This is an indicator of insufficient activity. The watch winds down to only what you put into it on a daily basis, and sometimes that is not enough to make it through the night.

The fix is to give it a full wind once a week, or be more active as it relates to your wrist and watch.

Of course, it could be an issue with the auto-winder - but by your own admission, you are mostly inactive through the day.

This is exactly what I do! I found that during the first lockdown here my Sub sometimes stopped, as I wasn't moving enough. I got into the habit of giving it a full wind every Friday morning, before going for my weekly supermarket shopping. Now we're in a second lockdown. Problem solved!

Could be because the quality of the oil being used is not as good as it used to be. My 16710 was just over 2yrs old when it would stop even when I was wearing it. I brought it to RSC and the verdict was it needed an overhaul and this was for a watch that was bought brand new. I expected that the first service would be at least 5yrs from the time I purchased the watch.
