Is my collection too boring?
Hi guys, would like to get a word of advice on my collection.
My current collection 126710BLNR (GMT Batman) 114270 (Exp) 14060M (Sub no-date) All three of them are super iconic Rolex watches and I really don’t have any issues with them. But, sometimes I feel like my collection is too SAFE and CONSERVATIVE. Not sure why, but maybe because they are all same brands or there aren’t any significant differences in design? Anyways, do you guys think I should sell one of them and get a piece that can bring more excitement to my collection? or Should I just remain as it is? Fyi, I am not planning to add one more watch as I think 3 watches are just enough and perfect for me, so it’s either a flip for the other one or just remain as it is :) |

If you've locked yourself into three watches max then you might as well just stay as is.
I personally wouldn't sell any of them to make room for a different watch. I'd keep those three and add a fourth watch, something eclectic from a different brand. Maybe a JLC Reverso? |

Only you know if you think you need to change your collection. You could add a little color to it by adding a LV, or a DJ TT.
If you love the collection then stick with it. |

Add some spice with a 4th piece; get one of the new colorful OP's. If you must only stay with 3, I'd sell the Explorer.

Seems like you have a solid 3 piece collection, but are yearning for something different or more fun.
My advice would be to try to separate real want vs TRF inspired want. Reading TRF can be dangerous when it comes to changing out the collection. If you do decide to make a change, I suggest adding the new piece and slowly selling whatever existing piece down the road. Move slow Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If you’re asking the question, it’s probably an indication that you really do think you need a change. Why not get on a waitlist for a new OP? Lots of cool colors. That or trade the sub for a hulk if you’re financially able!

I started out very similar to you with Rolex:
Exp2 Polar 216570 116710BLNR 114060 Sub ND I started getting into Tudor and got the BB GMT and then the BB58 Blue. I also had a GMT 1675 that I bought and sold, and just bought a 16710BLRO to replace it. I have a deposit down on an OP41 and waiting for a black SkyD, so I'm definitely trending away from sport watches and getting into dress watches. I really like the DD40, but I don't have that kind of $$ for the hobby, maybe in a few years...

In this case, don’t sell, but add one to two more when funds allow. A bright OP, or a JLC, or Santos, etc..... just something different than the normal Rolex vibe.

If you’re bored.... they’re boring.
Keep the GMT and Sub. Flip the 3rd for something new.

Kill the sub for a DJ blue dial and fluted bezel on a Jubilee.

OP, I think that's a great trio, not boring at all. If you do make a change, go for a different dial color or metal. |

If you like those 3, stick with them. Please remember that 99.9% of people outside this forum could care less about the watch you wear. In fact, 99.9% of people (like my wife!) think it’s weird to discuss watches on a website like this!

If you’re itching for something different to diversify, out of what you have I’d move the Exp. It is almost unrivaled as a single watch collection, but seems to get lost sometimes in multiple watch collections. Your Sub covers a lot of ground that the Exp covers, and is more iconic.
With regard to what to get, only you know what will bring the excitement. Just don’t get some random, different reference/brand for the sake of different...make sure it’s something you actually want to wear regularly. You may be tempted to go down the route of a “dress” watch (ie. something smaller on a nice leather strap), but for many lifestyles those types of watches don’t seem get much wrist time. Best wishes |

I would call it classic.
All SS Sports, but still a nice variety amongst them. |

People get bored of their collection for different reasons... i think the biggest issue is all 3 are black dials. I would keep the GMT sell the Exp and get a white polar Exp2. Possibly sell the ND Sub for a TT Bluesy sub.

No I don't think your collection is boring. It is a nice three piece and each of those pieces are a "grail piece " to someone. If it were me, and I wanted to get a different look, I would sell the sub and explorer and keep the blnr. Add a Datejust on oyster bracelet fluted bezel, and dial other than black. After getting the datejust I would add a diver, either the retired Hulk or the new Cermit. My.02.
