Should I consider other watch brands?

It seems like people can't get enough of Rolex nowadays. I also find myself stuck in this dilemma whenever considering about new watches. I understand that many other brands have superior quality and design over Rolex watches, however I failed to pull the trigger every time. Now an opportunity is provided to my to buy the latest 2020 Omega snoopy chronograph. I'm still undecided because my Rolex AD is yet to deliver an Rootbeer gmt and a no-date sub which I ordered 6 months and 1 week ago respectively. I'm afraid I'll regret if I pull the trigger on the snoopy and lose the chance to own an Rootbeer or the new no-date sub which I'm very keen on collecting. Any thoughts?

If Rolex is what you truly want, why settle for anything else.

Get the snoopy and flip it towards the tt chnr if you end up not liking the snoopy

If you’re tired of rolex and want to upgrade, go indie.

I think you should buy whatever watches make you really excited. I understand Rolex buying can be extremely frustrating, and other watch brands are fantastic. Just make sure you buy the watches you really want instead of the watches that are convenient to buy but don't really make you feel like you have to have them. I've made that mistake many times.

As for Omega, I love them and have owned many. I still own two, a ceramic Seamaster and a Grey Side of the Moon. I've owned a countless other brands, like AP, IWC, JLC, UN, Panerai, Grand Seiko, etc. All fantastic watches, and I spent almost 20 years mostly with avoiding Rolex. However, now they make the best watches they've ever made (in my opinion), and I also like not losing my mind shirt when I sell them. Most other brands you really have to buy used unless you want to lose money. I bought an IWC new from a dealer at around 35% off and still lost almost 50% when I sold it. Omegas have similar depreciation. The brands/models that don't, are in a similar position as Rolex. You just can't get them. A friend of mine was told by an AP dealer that he had to spend $500k to be considered for a popular steel model. And just a few years ago, steel APs were discounted heavily. Stainless Patek, same thing.

These days I find more enjoyment in my Rolexes than I ever did from any of the other watches I previously owned. They're a known quantity - high quality, high value retention, consistent and good fit & finish. I've never had a problem with any of them and I make money from owning them, overall. Yeah sure my APs were beautiful, but I was always scared to ding that royal oak bezel because it would never be quite the same if refinished. I also had to send a brand new one in for repairs because it just stopped working. And then I lost money when I sold it. Similar story with other brands like IWC.

These days I'm all about low stress ownership. Also probably why I've steered away from exotic cars and just own Porsches again for the same reasons I own Rolexes. Sure my Lamborghini looked cool and sounded great, but it was kind of a pain otherwise.

Apologies for the rambling thoughts, just wanted to share my perspective.

I had the chance to buy a 15400 grey dial or black dial from retail in 2018. I turned it down when I had the watch on my wrist and brought a Cellini moonfaced instead. My friends say it is huge stupidity given the current market price of both watches. However I feel no regret to not pull the trigger on AP as it really didn't grow on me. This time is different cause i love the snoopy as well.

Great thoughts! I had opportunities to buy Daytona when AD could offer 8% off retail, 3 times! but didn't pull the trigger. Also turned down the Royal oaks from AP boutique. I don't regret my decisions as I really don't have taste for them. All my watches are keepers, so my budget is tightly set. This is why Im struggling now.

This is what the various brands marketing department would have you believe but the honest truth is there is diminishing returns when it comes to improvements in mechanical watches and the ceiling was hit years ago.

That being said. I enjoy diverse collections more so than monotonous ones.

Yes, you should consider other brands but don’t settle. It took me almost five years of Rolex ownership to find something I wanted to buy without a Crown on the dial. Now I’ve got a newer Omega SMP that I absolutely love and won’t part with. Comparable to the Sub in many ways for less than half the price.

Watch collecting is a journey - when you are ready you will know!

Wise words.

OP, buy what you’re getting and you can always sell/buy down the line. Rolex is king for a reason, and if you’re looking for ‘better’ you’ll be disappointed.

I’d buy the Snoopy first as the CHNR and 124060 can be picked up later on. Omega Snoopy will only be in production for so long..

I agree. Breitling is making a comeback and I like some of their new and improved options. Added some less cluttered dials, a bit less bling, and slightly smaller sizes, all while retaining their classic pieces.

I love Rolex and will continue to buy when the right one for me is available, but I have bought several Breitling lately, and am looking at som Omega also.

Of course there are other great watch manufacturers you can consider. But beware having a selection of watches is great but will you give them much wrist time? I have Rolex, Omega, Breitling, Oris, Seiko but to be honest I would say 95% perhaps more of the time I wear a Rolex. Nothing wrong with other makes but I prefer my three Rolex
Thats just my choice..

You appear to have answered your own question. It looks like you don't want the Omega enough.

My AD has a comprehensive Omega section next to their dedicated Rolex in store boutique. It's a place I like to browse. There are many beautiful watches on display, many of which I could buy immediately. I'm never moved to put my hand in my pocket.

I do own one Speedmaster. This seems to be enough. I'm glad I have it but the novelty wore off quickly. But I can't seem to get enough Rolex watches. Although I think I nearly have at this point.

My mate ordered one last October and got his at the first day of 2021, his OB allows me to put deposit but can’t provide the exact delivery date. But I haven’t decided yet.

I would go with the Omega if it was available immediately. It is a fun watch and could give you a little diversity in your collection. When you get the call for the Root Beer or Submariner then figure it out and decide what needs to go and what needs to stay. I always like the add to a collection thought but you will know.
